In Southern Venezuela there are a lot of table-top mountains called "Tepui". Obviously, the most famous one is Roraima, but as it is a 6 days walk, doing twice the same landscape (going there and coming back) I was rather suggested to climb up El Abismo. A guy from a tour agency told me how to get there, but El Abismo Tepui is just beside the small village of El Paují. It really felt like exploring area where no one ever goes, as the only tourist I met was just one guy from Germany.
El Abiso is a very small and easily climbed Tepui but it's mostly famous for the fact that it's set in a location where the savannah meets the amazon jungle, so you walk to the tepui and up, and on the other side there is only pure jungle, as you can see on this photo. |
