Photographer’s Note

I took this picture last Saturday, on Parque del Este, Caracas, Venezuela.
It was early in the morning and have brilliant sun.

I was testing a dSLR and did my first attemps handling with RAW format.
Just made some exposure adjustments, then transferred it to Photoshop CS3 and did the usual stuff, like curves, resize for TN and a little sharpening.

Camera: Nikon D70s
Lens: AF Nikkor 28-80 F/3.3-5.6 G
Filter: 58 mm Circular PL

At the back you can see the Avila mountain, that runs all along the city from east to west, and separates it from the caribbean sea.
At the top of the most left mountain, you can see the Humboldt Hotel, built in the 50’s and actually under restoration, that has a stunning 360 degrees vision over the city and the sea.

Caracas, Miranda State.

Description:
Inaugurated in January of 1961, by ex-President Betancourt according to the decree N° 443. The Parque del Este is the first park of recreation in Venezuela. Its design was directed by the Brazilian landscape architect Robert Deceives Marx, jointly with Venezuelan professionals, who dedicated themselves to plan diverse atmospheres and green areas, turning it one of landscaping jewels whereupon Latin America counts.

The Parque del Este in Caracas, counts on an approximated surface of 87 has, with representative samples of three natural atmospheres of Venezuela: Plants of lagoons, Xerofític Garden, Humid Forest, thus our flora and fauna. In addition it offers a variety of activities and programs in environmental education.

Denominated the "lung of Caracas", the Parque del Este is recognized being a site for the recreation, the rest and the entertainment. Account with unique places, where their visitors can enjoy beautiful scenes the Venezuelan nature without leaving the city. It constitutes an oasis within anxious Caracas.

The population massively goes the week ends in search of rest and recreation; and of Monday through Friday, it is visited from very early by the lovers of the exercise. Account with beautiful atmospheres natural, integrated by interesting and valuable collected botanical samples in excursions by all Venezuela by professor Leandro Aristiguieta, botanist and Venezuelan biologist that of has been dedicated throughout its race to study and to conserve the plants of the Venezuelan region.

They consist of a fabulous exhibition of Venezuelan typical fauna in captivity, that it tries to become a place destined to his protection and conservation. In the Southeastern of the park is an artificial lake, in which numerous boats of oars are so that all the family amuses themself.

Also, the Parque del Este has in its interior the Planetarium Humboldt, pertaining to the Separate military command of Navy, where information is disclosed about astronomical science, by means of permanent exhibitions, musical concerts, daily conferences to students of schools and grammars school, basic courses of navigation and astronomy.

On the other hand, the park has an area destined to the cultural diffusion: the Acoustic Shell. It is located near the entrance main for pedestrians denominated the Patios. There spectacles are made almost all Sundays during the morning folkloric, cultural, sport and artistic. The place counts on an ample parking, pedestrian paths, toilets, kioskos, sources of soda water, coffee and ice cream shops, small trains for the stroll of children and adults, infirmary and public telephones. In addition, infantile celebrations in the facilities, previous authorization of the Department of Administration can be carried out.

Hi Jose, I am not sure whether it is because of the light, or your PP, but I like the way in which the foreground trees stand out against the background - yet you still have a lot of detail in the background too. You captured this under a lovely sky, and I like how you have composed this. Cheers . . . David

Hola Jose Miguel,
You're very casual about testing a dSLR AND your first work with raw!! The sharpness of the FG leaves frames the wonderful sweep of clouds well. David's comments about the excellent detail throughout also struck me when I first opened the photo; it gives the photo wonderful DOF. Perhaps the f14 worked well here. Regards, Pat

Hi, Jose Miguel. You show us different tones of green in your picture and one can easily undrestand why this place is considered as the lung of Caracas. The leaves in the foreground give a good depth to the picture and the ridge coming down from the right makes a good diagonal line leading to the hotel in the left corner.

I like your composition Jose Miguel. The way you framed the mountain with those branches on the top was a very clever shot. Normally I don't like landscapes without a clear point of interest but your composition here makes all make sense. The way how you created three layers with different depths - the row of trees, the mountain and the leafs on the top - helps to achieve this balance. very good. The only problem here is a small magenta cast. Try to do some color tweaking and decrease the magenta in the highlights and you'll have a perfect picture.

que bueno que has mostrado al Parque del Este conjuntamente con una excelente descripcion del mismo.
Tambien si estabas probando una nueva dSLR y los priemros intento de manejo de RAW, como siempre una excelente foto. En mi opinion personal has caido en la exigencia de reforzar mucho los colores que creo no son tan naturales como los veo.

Encantado de saludarte de nuevo y de ver una nueva fotografía.
El trabajo me parece estupendo, con un primer plano, de las ramas de los árboles y la parte posterior con un buen color y definición, el manejo de la luz muy bueno, ya que los trabajos con sol fuerte son complicados, ese cielo caprichoso, que estaba esperando, complementa bien esta gran imagen.

Hola José, this is really a great view, not first time i see this picture but today i take time to write you few words.
Technically well mastered, with a very good equipment, you used to its best the polarizer to have maximum contrasts between zones, sky is beautiful, ... hmm how i'd like to visit venezuela once in my life .. For sure i'll do that trip, don't know when but for sure ;)
I like how you keep in the compo leaves in upper side.

Venezuela has great natural beauties for sure, here you show that even near a big city like Caracas, it can still look so nice (to say the truth it didn't look that way when i was there, but i ve not been in that area!)! The early hour allows you to have a very clear atmosphere and gives these bright colors. The usage of natural framing at the top and the bottom of the image enhances the impression of being in the live nature. This park seems to be a nice place to have some time.

Hacia días que no visitaba tu página y observo que publicas pocas fotos, ya se que lo bueno se hace esperar, jejejeje, pero todas tus fotos son muy buenas y es una lástima que no te prodigues más.

La foto que publicas de este parque es muy linda y lógicamente muy bien hecha. Un césped que dan ganas de retozar por el, una arboleda de encanto, unas montañas frondosas de vegetación, un cielo azul y unas nubes oblicuas muy a tono con el paisaje que rematas encuadrándolo con unas hojas en la parte superior y unas plantas de hoja grande en el ángulo inferior izquierdo. ¿Lo ves? No se me ha pasado por alto nada. Me gusta como lo haces. Felicidades.

Uma galeria pequena mas já impressionate com 4 das seis fotos com mais de 100 pontos. A composição está excelente e os niveis diferentes criados pelas diversas plantas/árvores proporcionam uma profundidade muitissimo boa. O ceu está lindo. So não gosto muito das cores das árvores. Mas, não deixa de merecer a pontuação máxima.

one of only six up to now, but all of them impressing. I am glad you wrote on my Danube one, otherwise I would have missed yours I think. And I like the wonderful quality you gave that lovley landscape. The light on the trees is what me impresses most. But also the composition with the slope in the back and the top leaves is excellent chosen. Hope these six get more. Good informative note to get some knowledge about Venezuela.

vaya paisaje tan bello y tranquilo y con ese contraste de colores tan hermoso. El azul limpio del cielo rodeado de les verdes de la vegetación y montaña, forman un efecto visual muy agradable y de gran calidad. Además me gusta que has tomado esas ramas del árbol para enmarcar la imagen. Has reflejado un lugar de ensueño para dar un buen paseo!!
