Photographer’s Note

I took this picture on the way to Las Aguas de Moisés, in the middle of a road, on the other side of the "conchas" vendor (http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/South_America/photo317380.htm).

The kids were just sitting there at the entrance of their house, while their mom (I guess), was working on the other side of the street. The girl in the middle is eating a mango, which is one of the most common fruits in Venezuela. There are so many mango trees around, that you can pick up the fruits from the floor. In this particular case, I assume this is an unripe mango (because of its pale yellow color). In Venezuela, "green" mangoes are also popular despite their acidity. Most of the time, people eat them sprinkling a bit of salt on them or prepare some kind of marmelade called "jalea" just adding lots of sugar and cooking it (and haviong lots of patience because the jalea takes hours to be ready).

This is a typical daily life scene which can be seen in small towns or isolated houses in the inland, as well as in poor barrios in Caracas. I liked the composition with the the two small naked boys, the small guy hiding behind his sister and the girls with their mangoes (one of them running away). I sharpened a bit and increased contrast.
