Life in Los Roques Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a picture taken in the Archipel of Los Roques in Venezuela. I really don't remember on which of the "cayos", as the small islands are called. According to locals, there are over 300 of them (one for each day of the year).

It is hard to find vegetation species taller than about 10 cm; therefore, it is hard to find a place to protect yourself from the harsh sun.

I took a picture of one of these "taller" species with the stunningly beautiful sea water. I wanted to make a contrast between the almost liveless plant and the bright and living color of the water behind. There is also a small seagull on one of the braches of the right, but it is probably too small to be seen.

I enhanced the color saturation. Please, send me your critiques regarding the picture and how I can improve the workshop.

Hi Yvonne,
this shot caught my eye in the gallery because of the sensational turquoise colour of the sea. This combines really well with the white sand and deep blue sky and the inclusion of the plant is excellent to provide some focus to the image (without it the colours would have been great but it would be just another seascape). The horizon doesn't look entirely level - only a minor point, but maybe rotating and cropping it a little to straighten the sea horizon would improve it slightly.

but you have the material here which cant be fudged in on workshop
its a technically and photographicall pleasing combination of contrasting colours which suit the subject and tactile elements in the bush..
all in all...after some levelling
