Photographer’s Note
This is the summit of Monte Roraima, a remnant of the supercontinent Pangea, and one of the oldest land formations on earth. This 40 square kilometre table mountain towers 7,000 feet over the surrounding Amazon highlands of Venezuela and harbors a completely unique and ancient ecosystem isolated for millions of years from the steamy jungle below. The hot amazon air cools and swirls around the summit creating a cloud forest and some of the tallest waterfalls in the world plunge from the summit to the wilderness world below. The trail to the summit follows a narrow diagonal ledge directly up the sandstone cliff to this point.

Another, superb composition Mike! The lighting through the thick jungle mist rising from the plunge and contrasting rough profile of these Permian rocks creates an amazing mood. The man with the yellow jacket stands out just nicely and scales the dimension. Thanks for sharing...Alex

Hi Michael,
Such fantastic lighting, amongst the mist has created an attractive image, which is enhanced by the good compo and POV. The hiker is nicely positioned in the frame, and does not steal the "limelight" because he is facing away from the camera. Very well done.
Cheers Grant

Very dramatic, Michael
The scene looks great with lighting on forest clouds that add dramatic layers to the background. It looks in a great composition with warm color combination.
Congratulations,

Hello Michael!
Clouds under feet, figure standing over rocks and watching the unknown...
Earth becomes upside down and now your figure is above the clouds...
Sepia tones of clouds and rocks are amazing. Yellow wear of figure is bringing a reality feeling to scene. Otherwise I would get lost in that dreamy moment.
Great shot. Compliments.

Hello Michael.
Amazingly good shot. Few elements, but superbly placed in composition, and very well exposed against the light. The twin formations of rock create a strong sense of depth, and the harsh texture of the surface conveys the extreme age of these features. Is that mist of steam rising up to give the impression of some primeval world, the one suggested by your title? I like the small detail of the one rolled trouser cuff! The yellow jacket provides a touch of colour against the almost sepia tones. Wonderful photography.

Andrew

It's quite peculiar that lately when I come across a photo I feel compelled to comment on, it frequently turns out to be one of yours.
A spectacular capture: Man in his humility before the majestic powers of nature. Yet also he is the master, donned in his yellow plastic defense, all relaxed, hands in pockets, savoring the moment of his accomplishment.
I enjoy your work...

How could I miss this one !
Really a very special picture. Maybe a wider view (and a smaller person) would have been even better.

Hello Michael,
I'm happy to have discovered your excellent gallery, well stocked with gems, and indeed many of them photographed with the gem of all cameras. This photograph is entirely underrated — with 332 individuals "walked by" and only 22 of them recognizing its power and beauty.
Warm regards from Virginia,

I can't get tired seeing your photos.
You could make the perfect merging between man and nature. The sweaping cliffs, the fog, man (or woman) all embraced by a warm tone.
A breath taking photo.
