Photographer’s Note
Angel Falls thunders 1,000 meters down to the heart of the Venezuelan Rainforest. A spectacular ride up the winding Rio Carrao in a motorized canoe brings you to this campsite where you can sleep in hammocks next to the river. I felt really lucky to get a two minute break in the clouds at sunrise to get this image. This is two images stitched together. If you look really closely you can see a dinosaur in the lower right corner...

Hi,
You are right, this place provide idea to Conan Doyle for his book on the lost valley.
There is a strong ambiance on this photo due to the clouds providing a dreamlike atmosphere in this sunrise lightning. You have well managed this difficult photo regarding the exposure and the composition put in the panoramic frame fits well to the subject.
It was a place where I would have like to go, and now, I want even more.
Yves.

It reminds me the movie "Mission". A fantastic landscape, which fits perfectly with my idea of the atmosphere around a waterfall in the mist of the jungle.

Splendid view indeed! Impressive image of Angel Falls with a lot of water, surrounded beautifully with the clouds. The tone like monochrome reminds me of Japanese ink and wash painting. You captured a dinosaur with such a monster camera?
Best wishes, Hisashi

Hello Michael,
Nice!! I do like the toning. A bit of a sepia-feel, but by keeping the colours in the green and also in the yellows of the rocks, it makes that it does not at all feels too soft - something I often have with sepia. Nice work!

Dennis

Hello Michael,
What an astonishing view. After seeing both the Niagara Falls and the towering falls in Yosemite Valley, California, I had set my sights on Aguazu on the Argentine/Brazil border, Victoria Falls in Africa, and Angel Falls in Venezuela. I see now, the epitome must be the last. The surrealistic quality you achieve with the amorphous mist, and yet the sharp silhouette of trees in the foreground ant the cliffs in the distant are truly memorable. One does expect to see pterodactyls as in "The Land the Time Forgot."
Warm regards,
Bulent

Genius. Michael you are a professional for sure. This one is out of classification, it should be an iconic photo...honestly I feel smashed by your work. Smashed not on a bad way, but makes me know I have to walk a long way in terms of photographic skills...that I'll keep slowly walk.
Thanks for sharing with us these special places.

Mike: of course, every savvy viewer knows your images are tops - it's the common TE trap of non-reciprocity (of which I myself am a star) - but it doesn't matter to the trained eye. Superlative canvases. c
p.s. - Next time for something like this, consider the large post (LP) function on TE... just a thought.

Amazing! Is there always cloud cover around the falls? It looks so Primeval, the coloration and the mist are so complimentary.
