Plaza Independencia is probably the most photogenic square in Montevideo. Most people prefer to show it with Palacio Salvo, which is one the most iconic buildings in the Uruguayan capital. I have showed that view before (click here to see it) so here for a change photo taken into a less popular direction but with the same monument. It is a monument of J.G. Artigas. I was not sure which version to pick so in the workshops I include both a wider view as well as a close up of the monument.
José Gervasio Artigas Arnal (1764 1850) is a national hero of Uruguay, sometimes called "the father of Uruguayan nationhood". His portrait is on the watermark on the 1998 Uruguay 5 Pesos Uruguayos banknote.

Well placed the monument between the modern buildings, Mariusz.
The bright daylight superbly enhanced enhanced tyhe small details on the statue and its base.
Palm tree and the people around the Plaza gave a vivi tone.
Have a nice new week ahead,

Very beautiful picture of that square in Montevideo ( I was there back in 2002 !).
Sharpness, exposure, colors, vertical format, chosn pov and compostion are all excellent!
I saw the other versions. They're all good, but I stil prefer this one you posted as your main version!
TFS - congrats,

Uruguay? thats different :)
How was it there? did you venture out of the main city areas? was it safe at all times? We don't hear too much out this country...so many questions.
Its a keen collection of the 3 photos, but i must admit I enjoy the wide angle version the most, it seems to be the best balanced photo composition wise.
but I also like the photo you added as the photo taken and posted from before.
excellent light, excellent sharpness and details in all 3. Nice work.
see you around

Congrats for searching and finding so interesting and good capture in this dull city, this must be the only kind of smart place, modern buildings, palm trees and a monument very well placed (by you)
Good frame given by the big palm tree, also the Uruguay flag is present at the left
Well done, add a note at your answer at Craig
I prefer WS #2

I rather like this version of the Plaza with the magnificent statue nicely placed between the modern high rise buildings with the palm tree making a good frame.
A nice little series.
Kind regards Les.

excellent vertical composition; I like the way you created a very good balance of all these details by choosing the - seemingly - only correct POV with the equestrian statue standing out clearly against the nice blue sky :)

A very fine postcard from that big city. It looks to me very similar to Spanish big cities. Well taken, have a great week ahead.

udana kompozycja i bardzo przemyslany sposob obramowania zdjecia, a tu przy pomocy budynku, a tu przy pomocy krzaka. Ludzie umiejscowieni w delikatny i elegancki sposob urozmaicaja calosc.
Ladne kolory i swiatlo.

Witaj dear Mariusz
Like your countrywoman Malgo, you are very well-travelled. I can't believe the number of countries you have seen. Excellent postcard from Uruguay, an under-represented country here on TE, yet so historical and beautiful Great choice the vertical frame and the colours are strong, natural and well contrasted.
Thanks for sharing and I wish you and your family a happy New Year, with all your dreams coming true

Great shot from this place that without this site and your capture, I would likely never see! The people seitting around the statue give an excellent idea to the immense size of the monument, and its placed beautifully in the frame.
I really like the scene in the workshop of the monument against the modern building, but I think the main post is my favorite of the three. Such beautiful light too.

Do głowy by mi nie przyszło zastanawiać sie nad bezpieczeństwem. Zdziwiłam sie pytaniem Craiga, a okazuje się, że było uzasadnione.
Pozdrawiam serdecznie Małgorzata

Good Morning Mariusz,
A fine collection of photographs gives us a 'feel' for this city which is not often portrayed on TE. It must have been difficult to choose a favourite to post but, for me, this is the best, with the f/g tree following the thirds line, the buildings creating a similar fractional division and the statue strongly placed to command attention. The people all seem relaxed in their endeavours and there is a general sense of tranquillity.
As always, the exposure is nicely sharp and the light well managed.
Have a lovely day,

Good infor note to guide us along, A lively city square compositionally balanced that brings all its features to life and naturally leads to the imposing statue. I feel the fg gives a very important perspective to this shot, good clarity, colours and overall contrast. A pleasant shot, Congrats and TFS

Ciekawa widokowka jak Ty to nazywasz ;)
Ladny pionowy kadr i kolorki.
Jak zawsze dopracowana kompozycja.
Pomnik z palma fajnie wspolgra i pokazuje klimat tego miejsca.

I like this view with the vertical elements fitting in a portrait orientation. You have fount the correct angle to show the statue against the sky, framed by the two buildings. Congratulations & TFS!

A nice clear picture with good details. Well done.

Very well positioned magnificent monument, between the two modern buildings, this makes both horse and rider, are cut very well in the beautiful blue sky, both the palm and the bush in the foreground are two good adornments .
Good brightness and sharpness, with a nice range of colors.
Well done. I love it.
Have a good day.

A very interesting note with some excellent links to some other of your fine photographs from Montevideo and also a description of José Gervasio Artigas Arnal.
And a very fine photograph too. Your composition is excellent, the statue perfectly placed in the frame (right on the "third") and with lovely light and colours. It's wonderful to see lovely clear blue sky and sunshine while we are all depressed by the awful weather here in Britain just now!
Excellent light management and exquisite details and sharpness in this picture as well as your two workshop ones too.

I have not often see the photos from so far and some exotic country. Clever idea to take this point of view, fine DoF, excellent colors. Good presentation of Montevideo.
