Esta foto corresponde a la escultura situada en el cerro Artigas. En ella podemos ver a un Artigas triste marchando a caballo.
un poco de historia para saber el porqué...
Provincia Oriental fue la denominación dada a partir de 1813,
por instancias de José Gervasio Artigas,
a la antigua Banda Oriental como parte de las Provincias Unidas del Río de la Plata.
En agosto de 1816 un ejército del Reino Unido de Portugal, Brasil y Algarve, invadió la Provincia Oriental en conocimiento del Congreso de Tucumán.
Al iniciarse la década de 1820, es derrotado definitivamente Artigas en Tacuarembó por los luso-brasileños.
Luego de esto, el 5 de septiembre de 1820 el heroe traicionado y derrotado, dejó su patria y su familia y se marcha al Paraguay desapareciendo de la vida política de la región, falleciendo en 1850.


This photo corresponds to the sculpture located in the Artigas hill. In her we can see a sad Artigas marching to horse.
a little of history to know why....
"Provincia Oriental" (Eastern province) was the denomination given as of 1813, instantiate of Jose Gervasio Artigas, to the old "Banda Oriental" (Eastern Band) like part of the "Provincias Unidas del Río de la Plata" (United Provinces of the River of the Silver).
In August of 1816 an army of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarve, invaded the Eastern Province in knowledge of the Congress of Tucumán.
When beginning the decade of 1820, Artigas is definitively defeated in Tacuarembó by the luso-Brazilians.
After this, the 5 of September of 1820 the heroe betrayed and defeated, left to its mother country and its family and march to the Paraguay disappearing of the political life of the region,
passing away in 1850.
