Colonia del Sacramento, known in the local environment as Cologne is the capital city of Cologne, in southwestern Uruguay. It is located on the north bank-left-the Rio de la Plata, and 177 kilometers from Montevideo. It is located on the headland that forms the tip of San Pedro and Santa Rita.
Its historic quarter was declared a World Heritage Site in 1995 to illustrate the successful fusion of styles Portuguese, Spanish and post-colonial. This old town comprises 12 hectares of the western end of town. The flat is of Portuguese origin contrasts with the standard prescribed by the Spanish law on the West Indies. It is characterized by narrow streets of stone, which highlight their military tradition.
Because of its proximity to the city of Buenos Aires, Colonia del Sacramento has a strong bond with it. There are many travelers who come and go to that destination and also the inhabitants of Buenos Aires that have properties there. There was a project to link both sides through a binational bridge.
