Lady with headscarf during the celebration of end of year in the city. Ladies in Suriname are careful to wear same colored garments, shoes, bags and ornaments together. Walking at outside of home -even some where- with curlers are normal behavior.

Celebrating end of year on main streets of Paramaribo at every last day of each year is a ritual that brought by Chinese immigrants almost 150 years ago.

People believes shooting firecrackers (in Saranan Tongo bombel = firecracker or pagara = string of firecrackers / large firecracker) blows bad spirits from the area and brings good lucks, fertility. That's why this ritual very important during coming new year celebrations every last day of years.
