Photographer’s Note
Lady with headscarf during the celebration of end of year in the city. Ladies in Suriname are careful to wear same colored garments, shoes, bags and ornaments together. Walking at outside of home -even some where- with curlers are normal behavior.
Celebrating end of year on main streets of Paramaribo at every last day of each year is a ritual that brought by Chinese immigrants almost 150 years ago.
People believes shooting firecrackers (in Saranan Tongo bombel = firecracker or pagara = string of firecrackers / large firecracker) blows bad spirits from the area and brings good lucks, fertility. That's why this ritual very important during coming new year celebrations every last day of years.

Hey Ertugrul,
Dont know which one you focused on (probably the lady), but every single one of them is worth his own post. Great expression (was she angry at you?:), very intensive colors - but still natural looking, very good work.
P.S: see you`ve changed the lens, from your usual wide angle to a more "universal" one. The photo is surely a reflection of that.
Best regards.

Hi Ertugrul, Good close up showing us some of the local folks, from a variety of backgrounds. The lady has a very determined look on her face and some fashion traits to make this a wonderful daily life scene. TFS. Murray.

It is very interesting to see how everyone in this shot seems very serious and not in festive mood. The lady’s expression is absolutely fantastic. I have seen many Cuban women in the Luanda – Angola streets wearing the curlers. It must be a Caribbean tradition, even knowing that Suriname is outside the area.
Anyway, it is a very nice picture with a good close POV and excellent natural colours.

hi Ertugrul
When I see this, I know it has to come from you.
I can say all ladies in Malaysia will not go outside the doorstep with curlers! Maybe only in villages? But this is a superb portrait shot, not only about the curlers, but about the colorful dress code, the expression too.
tfs, bill

Good morning, Ertugrul.
A poignant streetlife close-up, most powerful in terms of colors and atmosphere. You sure chose the perfect moment for this one, the expression on the woman's face is priceless but every other single face in the frame catches my attention too. Intriguing composition, excellent presentation. TFS! Have a nice weekend, my friend. I'll be seeing you.

Hi Ertugrul. That's a nice portrait very sharp and with great colors however, they don't seem to be celebrating nothing since their faces are quite sad or indiferent I think. Anyway it's a good photo with their expressions (whatever they mean) well caught. Regards. Paulo

Merhaba Ertugrul,
A great snapshot. The serious expression of the old lady and the bored expression of the youngster behind her is really funny. The colours are very attractive and the cherry on top of the cake are those rolls in the hair of the lady.
Um abraço, José.
