| This is a picture of the encounter of a woman returning to her ancestral village that the family left 40 years ago. In the mean time this generation no longer speaks the native language aymara, but has assimilated western culture. This woman is a universtiy graduate. The contrast with those still in the native community was striking. Yet the concept of peasant no longer holds either. People come back to their communities for numerous reasons, many well educated to live a physically simpler but healthier and culturally rich life. |
