| After several days on the Inca Trail, it was quite a shock to the system to come back down into a town. The modern town of Machu Picchu is at the foot of the mountain, in the valley of the Urubamba river. It is sometimes incorrectly referred to as Aguas Calientes, but this name actually refers to the hot springs up the hill on the other side of the valley. It is also the terminus for the train from Cusco, which most people use to return to the modern world after their sojourn in this Andean paradise. |
