Photographer’s Note

Day 4 - This typical colonial-era Spanish building built of sillar, a pearly white volcanic rock used extensively in the construction of the city is located at the same street as Sanit Catalina's Monastery near our hotel. I found the texture and intense white as well as the details around the windows interesting.

It is often said that the city's name comes from the Quechua phrase "Ari, quepay" which means "Yes, stay". Nowadays one assumes that the name is from Aymara "ari" (peak) + "kipa" (locative) and means something like "near the mountain". Anyway in both languages the name meanings matches with the city biggest qualities: a place with warm and nice people that make you feel welcome and want to stay and also a place surrounded by mountains. Besides those meanings, Arequipa is also known as "the white city" because of it's constructions in "sillar".

Estamos tão vizinhos quanto as suas belas janelas! Só que de fato tão distantes como os meus FG and BG!
Boa captura! Bem colonial! Sempre gosto da luz criando as sombras, que quebram a monotonia das superfícies chapadas. Sempre interessante o detalhe arquitetônico destas janelas. Aliás, uma coisa legal de se colecionar!

Gosto muito da composicáo; é simples mais isso é a forza da imagem. A simetría, o FOV, as cores, tudo isso é una maravilha.

A imagem tambén tem un certo parecido com o que é possivel ver no norte da Argentina.

Oi, Flávia. Já lhe disse que suas fotos estão me convencendo a colocar Arequipa em minha lista de prioridades "viajeiras"? Pois é! Essa, especificamente, é de muita beleza, não apenas pela arquitetura colonial espanhola tão bem exemplificada quanto pela composição esmerada, guardando simetria perfeita e equilíbrio de cores. Belíssima captura; janelas coloniais ricas em detalhes e como foi mencionado,as sombras acrescentam muito à composição;
