Latest Peruvian elections results:
Ollanta Humala (Chavezlike nationalist) 30.86%
Alan Garcia (Former catastrophic president)24.69%
Lourdes Flores (Conservative candidate) 23.61%

There are still about 20% of the votes left to be counted. It is clear that Humala has won the first round, but it lis less clear who gets second place.
I am really crossing my fingers, as a second round between a potential chavezlike thug (he told an argentinian newspaper that if Lourdes won, the "people" would kick her out within a year) and a president who totally ruined the country in his 5 year goverment (Garcia 1985-1990) I dont know for which one I would vote. And to think that I was considereing going back to live there in the future...

This is a view of the side of the presidential palace with a tank. Of course a tank is needed, just in case anyone gets any ideas....

Salut Daniel
Impressive view and strong demonstration of power "just in
case"... The composition is well seen with a good DOF in the
street. Cheers
Quentin

Hola Daniel
Saludos Toni

Hola Daniel, the elections in Italy have somehow eclipsed the Peruvian ones in the news, so thanks for this post. It's a sad story about populism gaining ground, and a sad shot of military vehicles in a pedestrian street, somehow reminds me of images of the 1970s. Thanks and regards, Daniel

hi daniel,
stron, very strong, factual image, i think a very important work, good to see it;
best wishes, j.

Gaby

Nice strong shot, I would imagine the gunner up the top might get pretty bored during his shift when nothing is happening 99% of the time.

I was pretty shocked to see police tanks on the street in Istanbul when I went, bit of a change from where I live, but there was something about the military and strong police presence which I was attracted to.

Its strong, its to the point, its an excellent photojournalistic photo. It perfecty illustrates the scene and the note is factual and journalistic. A great package.

Hola Daniel
saludos
manuel

Exactly, Daniel - concerning your note - the same as in this country - I principally do not vote, because I do not see anybody decent to vote for!
I am grateful to your notes, they are very useful for me, because since I have my dear friends in that country, I cannot be indifferent. I keep checking! The next vote is scheduled for May 7th. 400,000 people voted abroad, did you vote too, I wonder? - Who knows, history knows facts when one vote made the difference.

Great journalistic photo, by the way. (The quality could have been a little bit better though (lighter and sharper), but it does not matter much in this case...) I have seen lots of policemen near this palace and on all sides of the park in the center of the square. A friend of mine was also impressed by the number of armed policemen in the city... I am glad we DID NOT see the tank!

I really liked your note "just in case anyone gets any ideas..."... This is very sad!

Hi Daniel, good shots that well rapresent what a normal democracy should normally not to be!
thanks, in the streets!
in Italy we are very close to that image...
good perspective and colours/focus.

after 3 days from the vote we don't know still who will be the next prime minister.
the difference at the Senate who made by the vote of the Italian Expats (people that live or were born oversea and that don't pay taxes in Italy - we are the only Nation in the world were that "citizen" can vote!); at the Camera there was a difference of 25.000 votes over more than 40 Millions!
but Berlusconi don't wont go away....

ciao

Great documentary shot. Very sharp. A strong image.

Salut Daniel

Chao,
Narayan

i hope the things work out for your country Daniel..
(somehow!)
this tank symbolizes the power and the oligarchy so well here..Excellent!
Best wishes.

Hallo Daniel,
Good photo from daily life in Lima. Unfortunately what is shown is not the happiest thing. I like a lot of your POV, filled with nice little items from the daily life of this capital.
well done.

Hi Daniel,
I really like this... the pick and shovel on the back of the tank seem pretty odd to me.
Well caught daily-life scene with a twist. Well done :)
Lewis.

Salut Daniel,

Bonne semaine
Charles
