Last picture before I go to Turkey:

Riot police standing in front of the gates of Peru's presidential palace which is called "Pizarro's house" due to the fact that Francisco Pizarro (conqueror of Peru) built his palace on the same site. This palace dates from the 1800's with several renovations. Pizarro's original palace burned down a long time ago.

The current tenant is President Alejandro Toledo. He was elected in 2001 and currently has an approval rating hovering around 10%. His political
party "Peru Posible" is fairly new, like many in Peru, but had to go on a coalition with the inaptly named "Frente Independiente Moralizador" leadered
by clown politician Fernando Olivera.

Toledo's government has had a relaitvely good management of the economy but from a political point of view it has gone from one "metedura de pata" to
the next. In Spanish "meter la pata" means sticking your foot on something, or basically screwing up.

He has put many of his brothers and sisters in
government positions who in turn have ended up in all types of scandals. A popular campaign joke is that if you have no brothers or sisters you'll do better than the current president by avoiding the ridicule his siblings bring him. While being president, He denied having fathered a girl who pressed for testing and proved that he was in fact her father. There are iregularities regarding the number of signatures gathered for his party's registration. He
goes from one cabinet shuffle to the next, and his government goes from approving one ridiculous law after the next.

It seems that his quest has been persecuting former president ALberto Fujimori, who know lives in Japan in exile, for any charge his government can come up with, but without any real proof.

The elections are next year, and so far it seems that a lady, Lourdes Flores, is the front runner, but peruvian politics are full of surprises, we must
wait and see..........

A common sight in Morea too. We have whole divisoons of riot police infront of government buildings and embassies. Complete with heavy armored vehicles. This guy seems lonely by comparison:)

Its a good sort of photojournalistic shot although its a non decisve moment you captured here. But thenagain, his day is probably mostly this: standing around waiting for trouble that materializes only sometimes.

Re: woman president. I think Korea, the most confuscian country on Earth may have a woman prez soon:)

Hi Daniel,
Enjoy your trip to Turkey!
Good vertical composition which also heightens the bars to emphasize the protection given to the palace which could also mean separation from public. Excellent note as well!

daniel excellent note and I mean excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if pizarro knew who was living in his palace I am sure he would turn around in his grave.
Christine.
