Photographer’s Note

The third week of June Cusco celebrates its birthday, founded by the Incas. For this week, schoolchildren, company personel, and other luminaries from all over the province parade around the city wearing typical costumes.

Cusco was the capital of the inca empire and called the bellybutton of the world. During colonial times, a spanish style city was built using the old
inca stones as foundations. In the same way as architecture, mainstream peruvian culture is a mix of spanish culture based on indian foundations.

Took this picture in the streets at night where a dance troop was taking a break. I was really lucky to get this shot, as andean people are either shy about taking their picture or tend to do it for money with a totally unatural expression, here I caught them in the act!
