I took this picture on the Taquile island, situated on Titicaca lake at approximately 4000 meters. The 1200 persons who live here pay attention to preserve their traditions, costumes and dances. They speak aymara and their society is based on community collectivism and on the Inca moral code "ama sua, ama llulla, ama qhilla" (Quechua for do not steal, do not lie, do not be lazy).
Weaving is a very important craft in the community. The cloth the most characteristic is the "chullo", a hat with "ears". Single men wear that hat with a ear lift, and married men with both ears lift. Men wear also a belt with colorful geometric patterns which represent the annual cycle of activities ritual and agriculture.
