This mummy sits here like this on the open air some centuries or even thousand years.

In Peru and Bolivia you can see a lot of dead bodies I mean mummies. Maybe it is because of the climate. In Nazca plateau it is very dry, never rains and probably there are no winds. The graves are quite opened and there are no guardians. A driver who took us there wanted to sell me some items, hundreds years old. Was very surprised I did not want to buy. The most impressive is Juanita from Arequipa - the girl found in snow on Ampato Mountain, who is 500 years old and looks as if she died some days ago ..

For many years Chauchilla cemetery was looted by treasure hunters, who destroyed the place completely, taking away all the treasures the mummies kept in their tombs for centuries. Grave robbers just left behind the corpses, which can be seen today all over the ground. In addition to skulls and bones, visitors also can see several tombs centuries’ old, as well as long human hairs, ceramic fragments and others remains scattered on the dessert surface. It is the only archaeological site in Peru, in which ancient mummies are seen in their original graves, along with ancient artifacts, dating back to 1000 AD.

Interesting shot (I've got this thing about skulls...) and scan quality is OK. I would have prefered a lower pov, but I guess you can't choose it. Thanks for sharing.

Looking at the thumbprint first I got the impression that this was another Halloween picture from USA... But this is the real thing here! Also a very interesting note! Did you see any of those two thousand years old Paracas textiles, usually stolen from graves?

Hi Malgozata!
A good shot in the sense of TE and a well explaining note.
I`m nearly sure I have a shot(non digital too) of the same grave,I did so many there.Good management of the dificult light and fine details to view.

Olá Malgorzata, I remember well these creepy mummies but my photos from 2002 are terrible, specially compared with this splendid photo from last century ;-) Light and details are very good. Even the aligned skulls in the back stand out so well from the dark.
