Oasis, a photo from Ica, South

Photographer's Note

It's been a while since I've made a posting here on on Trek Earth, since I felt like I had run out of worthy material. But after a couple months in South America in May and June, hopefully I can find some more pics to post.

My fist pic is of Haucachina, a tiny oasis town outside of Ica, a few hours South of Lima. Surrounded by massive sand dunes in all directions, the town is centered around a small beautiful lake, and beckons you to do nothing but laze in hammocks.

I didn't really edit this pic at all. It's pretty much straight from the camera except for a bit of saturation.

Hello David,
Extraordinary view! I like a lot the reflections in the water, very symmetric with the true dune.
This place looks like northern Africa or Middle East!

A great shot of a strange landscape that we´ve
almost never seen before.A great idea as well
to include the reflection of the blue sky on the water which makes this picture more colourful.Great job!

Fabulous scene, David. You certainly captured the mystical beauty and serenity of this place. I love the way the light on the sand looks like gentle water reflections. Half of me wants to say it could use a bit of sharpening; the other half says the soft lines add to the feel of exquisite unreality.

I liked the image completelly reflected in the water, that's denote a good composition you got, as the DOF, POV and sharpness.

Very nice shot, David. I like it a lot. But I don't think you've gotten as much as you could out of this wonderful scene. I pushed it a bit harder by altering the curves (increasing the shadows) and bumping the color saturation and ended up with one publishable quality photo. Give it a shot. (I'm out of WS posting for the day, or I'd post it here).

Hi David,
A beautiful serene scenery, more reminiscent of the desert regions of North Africa than Peru. I like the symmetry so nicely created by the beautiful reflections on the water. I also like the contrast between this green spot and the sand dunes behind. Well done!
