Photographer’s Note
TRAIN OF FOOLS
If Art Buchwald and his son went to Peru ?
Son !
Yes, dad …?
Do I see a boy on the tracks selling orchids and his puppy to the passing train ?
Her puppy, dad… It's HER puppy.
It's the girl out there who's selling orchids and her puppy to the passing train
What's the business in selling the orchids and the puppy to the passing train, son ?
Well.. They want to make a buck for living… They are poor people, dad…
They will stay the poor ones if their idea of making a buck for a living is to sell the orchids and a puppy to the passing train.
By the way: How do you know it's a girl ?
Dad… I know my ways to recognize a girl when I see one and you don't ! You are too old, OK…
OK
.
.
Son !
Yes, dad …?
How did you recognize that it was a girl out there, on the rail tracks - selling stuff ?
Oh, God…
Never again I'll go with him on those excursions… Ever… ???
The kids

This pic is terrible and wonderful at the same time. If your intention was to break my heart, you DID, George!
Bravissimo, sai? I love that child..I love him...I love him!!! This is a great pic!

Ah yes, this one again that I liked so much : it touches me as much as the first time, it's full of poetry and suggestions, the puppy is not clearly visible and the girl's face is a bit dark but for me, the most perfect photos are not the most moving ! There is something in this one, difficult to express - your text too, as I wrote last time : also the way you chose how to tell it...
Magic realism, sad reality but lyricism too.
The hieratic pose is so great here, also this dark atmosphere of the jungle : a fave !
Bravo !
Cath
(PS : no orchids here, a variety of "amaryllis" I guess !)

Mocne, jedyne w swym rodzaju.
Buzka ogromna.
Ciesze sie, ze zyjesz :)

I remember it so well, it's so poetic, touching, the way she holds those flowers, shyly, and the puppy is heartbreaking. So dignified too she is. A little girl doing an adult job to survive. Don't know what else to say George, so much love in it all. With respect.
And love.
