Jour 14 au Pérou, après un dernier repas sur la trail, un adieu aux porteurs et cuistots, et c'est reparti pour le dernier droit dans la jungle humide avec la pluie qui menace de mouiller notre arrivée et de nous boucher la vue et la lumière des photos.
Puis, après avoir monté un long escalier abrupt qui nous laisse essouflés, la vue nous coupe le souffle qui nous reste. C'est toute une surprise de voir que nous sommes déjà arrivés à l'intipunku, la porte du Soleil du Machu Picchu!
Les nuages sombres qui nous ont menacés de quelques gouttes s'écartent soudainement pour illuminer ce site mythique par des rayons qui sont apparus pour cet instant d'émotions intenses, de recueillement et d'émerveillement. Après 160km de marche en haute altitude pour 12 jours incluant 6 cols à plus de 4000m (dont un à 5000m), c'est la destination, la découverte et la fascination de cette citée perdue.
Ont voit sur la gauche les terrasses autour de la Porte du Soleil, la jungle de la montagne n'a pas été entièrement dégagée pour révéler l'étendue des cultures de la montagne. En bas la route d'accès serpentine des autobus qui monte de la petite ville de Aguas Calientes, dans une méandre du Rio Urubamba. La citée du Machu Picchu a l'air petite entre ces grands pics rocheux, en particulier son célèbre pic Huyana Picchu à droite.
En quittant on se tourne vers l'arrière pour dire adieu à la porte du soleil au bord de la crête, et on se lance sur le sentier pavé descendant vers la citée perdue retrouvée...

Day14 in Peru, after a last lunch on the trail, saying goodbye to the porters and cooks and we're off again for the last stretch in the humid jungle with the rain threatening to block our sight and the picture's light.
Then, after climbing a long and really steep stair that leave us breathless, what's left is taken away by the view opening in front of us. It is quite a surprise to discover that we're already at the Intipunku, the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu!
The dark clouds that threatened moments before suddenly part to light up the mythical site with rays that appeared suddenly to illuminate this moment of intense emotions, meditation and wonder. After 160km of walking in high altitude for 12 days including 6 passes at more than 4000m (one at 5000m), this is the destination, the discovery and the fascination of this lost city.
We can see on the left the terraces around the Sun Gate, even if the whole jungle was not cleared to reveal the scope of past agriculture on the mountain. Down on the slope is the winding access road that climbs up from the little town of Aguas Calientes, in a twist of the Rio Urubamba. The city of Machu Picchu looks small between those massive rocky peaks, particularly the famous Huyana Picchu on the right.
Wile leaving we turn around to say goodbye to the Sun Gate on the edge of the crest, and we keep going on the paved trail going down to the rediscovered lost city...
