There are already several similar photographs of Machu Pichu on TE. I however do not hesitate a minute to add another of them.

As the final destination of the Inca Trail, this majestic site would deserve more. It should compete in my opinion, in term of number of photographs, with the Eiffel tower or the sun laying down itself.

After three days and half of often exhausting walk, in mountain, at an altitude varying between 2300 and 4200 meters, under the rain and the fog, having made the way as a autonomous (i.e. transporting with me all the material necessary to the excursion: bag-pack, tente, food, clothing, sleeping bag, rather than with an organized group which takes care of all), I believed to arrive dead of tiredness at the end of the path.

Machu Pichu, completely drowned in the fog in the morning, was discovered then little by little, some ruins in first, some street thereafter, then the city as a whole, then the mountain behind and finally the very whole valley.

The incredible beauty of the site nourishes in itself.

I found myself with my fellow travellers to run of an end to the other not to miss any angle, no crowned stone, no furnace bridge. We climbed the insane path which carries out to the top of the peak, traversed other paths with the cliffside, entered the caverns, all that without feeling another thing that the solid impression to be in one of the best moments of our life. And I am still convinced by it, four years later.

To those who think of it: go ahead!

Je me suis retrouvé avec mes compagnons de routes à courir d'un bout à l'autre pour ne manquer aucun angle, aucune pierre sacrée, aucun autel. Nous avons gravi le sentier fou qui mène au sommet du pic, parcouru d'autres sentiers au flanc de falaises, entré dans les caveaux, tout cela sans ressentir autre chose que l'impression solide d'être dans un des meilleurs moments de notre vie. Et j'en suis encore convaincu, quatre ans plus tard.
