Photographer’s Note
Machu Picchu is often called 'The City in The Clouds'. At ~8,000 ft, it is an amazing example of Incan architecture. There are various thories of who lived within the small city (appx. 5 sq. miles), and most historians agree it was built in the mid 1400's by Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui, an Incan ruler. An earlier posting by with a timely note reminded me of this shot. Thank you!
Conditions: Misty, clouds lifting as the morning progressed. About 8 or 9 in the morning.
Machu Picchu's ruins have been well photographed from a distance, so I thought it would be nice to photograph and remember them from the 'inside', - recalling what it was like to walk through the stone passages and corridors of homes long since abandon.

A great shot, and also an unusual place to take a picture.
Nice one. Well done!

the mountains should be Andies, right? They look gorgeous. I like the old bricks and the passage leading to the great scenery ahead. I also like the fog on top of the mountain range. How is the plant coverage of the mountains? from the picture, it looks like it is just short bushes, but are there areas with lots of trees and thick forest?
thanks for the great picture.

Lovely composition. There is a sense of anticipation and it is rewarded by a spectacular view. The stone walls of the entry way make for a creative leading line. Well done.
