Photographer’s Note

Peru is a land of great scenery, impressive mountain, an architecture that still mystifies the modern man, but it is also inhabited by proud peoples, welcoming peoples.
Here is Wilson Puma, 6 years old, watching the sheeps after school, watching the strangers passing by.
My friend stops, and engages a non verbal contact, and I was lucky to press the shutter just at the time their eyes locked together, a unique moment charged with emotion.I removed the colors, and there were many on this young man, as I did not want to interfere with the emotion.
Ah Wilson, how I wish I could give you this photo.

Well seen and captured in tight framing of this scene. I like the contrast and saturation and the glaze in the child's eyes are amazing.

Hi Charles,
A nice moment of contact you have captured so well between these two people. Even though you say it was non verbal you can see the exchange as something passes between them. Black and white works well and I like your choice of composition.

Vraiment une magnifique photo. Le sujet est absolument hors des sentiers que tu empruntes habituellement. Le regard de cet enfant est captivant, presque inquiétant, hantant. Je ne sais ce à quoi ressemblait la version couleurs et honnêtement, je ne veux pas le savoir. Cette version en noir et blanc me comble parfaitement. Les blancs et les noirs sont présents, en quantité équilibrée et en qualité. L'instant saisi, ce 1/50e de seconde, a quelque chose d'intime, et même d'intimiste. Un échange... ce regard intense et "exigent" (comme une quête de vérité, une soif d'absolu) et le regard tout en douceur, à peine esquissé, presque humble, de ton ami.
À mon humble avis, Charles, c'est l'une de tes plus belles photos, une de celles qui peut passer l'épreuve du temps, je crois.
Pourtant, il y a quelques petits trucs que j'aime moins. J'aurais probablement fait disparaître quelques petits détails, tel la bande de tissus (? d'un sac à dos?) située entre le visage et le bras de ton ami. Et j'avoue que le titre est juste un peu trop présent, graphiquement parlant.
Ces détails hors du chemin, c'est de la très bonne et très belle photographie, Charles.

Deux mondes différents qui se rencontrent, deux cultures opposés. L'enfant a une très belle expression dans son visage. Je me demande vraiment à quoi il pense en ce moment. Le noir et blanc ressort très bien sur cette photo et l'exposition est excellente. Bravo.

Hi Charles,
You are too modest, my friend. It takes much more than just luck to get such a great portrait. The expression and look of the boy would render any portrait very powerful, but you did also an excellent compo. We feel like watching a special moment of wordless contact between two human beings with very different life experiences.
I suspect that your emotional attachment to the photo that is perceived in your note is caused by less happy events.

Yes, such a very special moment, brief but intimate. Sometimes I think that what we looks for also when traveling, not just to see the beautiful landscape, but also to experience and share a connection even without verbal communication, such as this beautiful shot. I love it. thanks

Bonjour Charles.
C'est un double portrait très réussi. Le regard de l'enfant est attentif et interrogateur. Il n'a que six ans mais sa vie semble loin de celle insouciante des enfants de chez nous. Le B&W est bien choisi pour faire ressortir l'essentiel.
