Photographer’s Note

The Inca trail is a 4 day long hike in the mountains, ending in Machu Picchu. It is an aciento road that was paved with rocks my the Incas, although only a short distance of the original rocks still exist and most have been replaced by new ones.

This is one of the ruins we came across on the way, and it actually looked really impressive with the clouds below it.

Well dear neighbour on TE, you have clicked a beauty with misty atmosphere.
I like this atmosphee and daily I get such scenes in Shimla.

I recently trekked the Inca trail too. When we got to this point (Sayaqmarca) we had a similar view to you; no view, basically, everything was obscured by cloud. Our guide advised us to wait - sooner or later the clouds would lift, even if only for a few moments, giving us a spectacular view towards the ruins of Wiñaywayna and the Rio Urabamba. We waited half an hour and had all but given up but then, sure enough, the clouds lifted and we had a view to remember. One day I might post the photo here.

It's a shame your guide didn't give you similar advice, because this could have been a much better photo had you been able to give it some depth.

Dear Thrudur,
Excellent capture of those curved walls. The fog has created a good contrast for the fore-ground material.

Hi Thrudur. I always like to see pictures from the Inca trail as it is a hike that I would very much like to do one of these days. Although the cloud obscures the more spectacular distant view which Phillip tells us about, it is nevertheless a well composed shot given what you have to work with. Cheers . . . David
