Photographer’s Note
At 2750 mt. above sea level, Alca is one of the main village of Cotahuasi canon, the red fields visibles everywhere are made of quinoa plants.
Quinoa is a plant from chenopodiaceae family, like spinach, it gives a great proteic support to local population, Incas called it "chisiya mama" the mother of all seeds.
Quinoa has been cultivades by pre-colombian people since 5000 years, there are more than 200 different kind of Quinoa, its biodiversity and inner qualities made it a precious heritage for human kind.
