Photographer’s Note

I took this picture on a walk through the harbor district of the Amazon city Iquitos. This part of the city is called Belen. It's kind of a slum, but the people there wouldn't name it like that. They say that's "the way they want to live". The most of the them are very friendly despite their poverty, but some of them want to cheat you. So it's not really dangerous, but you have to take care of your things. I had to look especially for my camera. Because of the carneval they liked to throw water balloons, especially on "Gringos" like me and my friend.

This picture shows a typical back road. There is water from the Amazonas in the background. Most of the time this area is awash by the river. Well they have a little problem with the garbage. The small float in the middle of the picture for example is used as a toilet which direct leads into the water.

I am anxious to see your comments and have a many more interessting pictures of this place if you like it.
