Photographer’s Note
Another photo from the road between Trujillo and Huamachuco. This road runs through high sierra, with some amazing views all around. Here, the mountain in the foreground is Cerro Icchal (we think), an apu (sacred landform of ancestor veneration), in this case the Great Lord Catequil. This apu, and the shrine and other archaeological sites on and around it, are the focus of my supervisor's current archaeological project, and is the focus of my M.A. thesis. So in the foreground, is Cerro Icchal, a volcanic plug that tops 4000m asl, and in the background are the snowcapped mountains of the Cordillera Huayhuash, some 200km away...
