Cajamarca child: misery in a rich land Photo

Photographer’s Note

Cajamarca has the biggest gold mine in the world and is rich in minerals and culture. However, this child's face is striking of the misery that prevails for the majority of the rural people who do not profit at all from the material wealth that is extracted and exported. It is the contradiction of Peru the economic poverty that exists still admidst all the wealth. Fantastic and expressive look of this child. The poncho emphasize the face and the hat is complementary, in lines and colours, with the landscape. Great ! Thanks to give this to us !

Very emotional picture. The child has a kind of broken expression on her face, but reading your note to the photo, that doesn't surprise me. You photographed it wonderfully, the whole photo has a meaning. I love the background too.

hola. muy curioso el sombrero de la niña, tipico de cajamarca creo. el fondo ayuda a contrastar y que la niña se haga notar mucho mejor (esa es mi opinion).

Hi Peter,

Very good subject and well cropped picture, but I don't like the oversaturated colors. It seems like you did too much post-processing... Also remember that the size limit for pictures is 200kb (yours is only 151kb) and the maximum length is 800px (yours is only 425px). If the photo would've been bigger (in size and px) we would 've been able to see more details...
