The cathedral is located in front of a park, part of it used as parking, so while trying to avoid them this souvenir seller started going with me ofering some items, he only spoke guarani, so don t understand my words telling him to wait and continue following me showing his crafts and smiling, finally I decided to include him in the capture
Metropolitan Cathedral of Assumption (Asunción - Paraguay)
In a "Description (truncated) of the Province of Paraguay" made in 1761 describes the Cathedral. "... The Cathedral is not outstanding but moderately trimmed, is formed with thick wooden columns and three aisles, not very high, the roof has colorful setting, on the outside are galleries to preserve people from the weather and let do there some ceremonies
July 1, 1547, Pope Paul III instituted the Cathedral of Rio de la Plata, located in the city of Asunción. Throughout its history, the city has had several temples, most of them built with rustic materials not endured the test of time. The present cathedral, was ordered to built by President Carlos Antonio Lopez, is the sixth and was consecrated on October 27, 1845.
The plans of the temple were the work of Uruguayan Carlos Zuchhi, who also designed Independence Square in Montevideo (Uruguay), the construction was carried out by the Italian Pascual Urdapilletta , who directed the building until 1844, followed Tomas Verges, who introduced some changes to the original design in order to give more prominence at the building, finished in 1846
Tthe bells are from the Jesuit Reductions and Brazil, tolled for the first time on April 23, 1853 at 12:00 pm
The Cathedral is located in the central district ” Cathedral “ on Independent Paraguayan Street, facing Independence Square
Note: It is the only cathedral I know which is closed except for mass. It is located along the river and near other historical and political points

Nice capture of this typical South American sacral architecture ! But the bonus is the Street seller in the foreground with Indio artcrafts.
Many interesting notes.
TFS and best regards

Ola Maria ,

In some way the cars disturb the view, on the other hand this is what it looks like in most cities: sacred places and daily life share the same space and parked cars are hard to avoid. They actually also surround the salesman quite nicely, giving us another view of life in the streets. You have handled the contrasts of sunny and shady areas very well. Every part of the photo is correctly exposed.

The face expression of the nativ indian shows hope, to make a succesful sale, and smiled to the camera.
On another depth level, the view of the cathedral facade is immaculate with its fine outlines and archi.-details.
Buen fin de semana,

Fine view of the Cathedral of Assumption, attractive architecture blending Spanish and Romanesque, the large columns façade and two bell towers. Similar but a bit later than our California missions architecture.
And a bonus with the native vendor with colorful bead strings for sale.

Hola querida Maria,
the dynamism of perspective and bright tones against the deep blue sky makes your picture irresistible. There's a marvelous play of contrasts and the church façade that fills the frame looks like a huge wall blocking any other view and sense of space. The indigenous souvenir seller looks trapped by the cars too. His presence, uncertain glance and subtle smile give a very special dimension to your graphical and attractive picture. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,

beautiful cathedral but the cars are annoying indeed. The seller adds a nice touch as he is local and seems to sell some local souvenirs. I have it all the time -want to show something but there are cars parked and you cannot do anything.
There are 3 times less photos from Paraguay on TE than from Uruguay. Your photos are thus extremely valuable and interesting. Honestly I am ashamed I did not even know the name of the capital. And now I can watch its cathedral :)
Have a great weekend,

A great capture of this bright white facade standing out sharply against the deep blue sky.
The inclusion of the souvenir seller adds life to the picture. From a photographic point of view it is much less interesting that a parking lot is located right in front of a historic building or a monument. But you can't help that of course.
Best regards, Paul

Truly attractive picture with the presence of that local seller! Cars didn't bother me here!
Sharpness, management of difficult strong light, colors, chosen pov and compostiion really pleased me!
Gracias por compartir,

The Cathedral looks so bright against dark blue sky and excellent light. The souvenir-seller in the fg is a nice attraction. Wonderful colors and clarity all over.
Tfs a very well composed and compact shot.

Composition and pov is spot on, you have made an excellent use of the smiling face as good supporting element where the eye is drawn to the imposing old church, a a shot with amazing local ambient and a visual feast to the eyes. The exposure is just right, rich colors and stunning contrast to deep blue sky. A very well taken shot & tx for sharing.

the inclusion of the souvenir seller and his array of wares add a really interesting element to the scene dominated by the attractive architectural features of the Cathedral.
The note is both informative and interesting.
Kind regards Les

Beautiful view of this elegant white cathedral against the backdrop of the blue sky. The architectural details is very well captured. The seller along with his trinkets is a nice inclusion to the composition. Like his eye contact here. Excellent clarity and light. Thanks for sharing.

It is kind of a strange mix of elements, the Guarani man don't really fit in this environment of big city and mordern architecture. I wonder if he rather be living in the nature. Perhaps he is now adjusted to living in the city. The odd combination make it a very strong contrast and a compelling image.
Good quality image as always.

Buena tarde Maria,
Right from the start I see this as being a difficult exposure, so compliments on keeping everything in check. I would imagine it would have been far too easy to blow out the highlights with the bright cathedral facade, or ending up with heavy shaded areas to compensate. Well done!
Looks quite congested, and if the church is only open for mass, I suppose it would make sense to be used as desired parking, yeah? I like the inclusion of this street vendor, he adds that human element and some additional color from his products. His slight smile also gives some emotion to the scene. Maybe you should have tried some French to communicate?? :)
Bonne journée mon ami. Du côté du Nord,

Very busy composition
In your place I would have made a choice or photograph the character or photographing the church from another point of view
I know, this is not simple to compose
adramad (33590) 2014-01-29 11:36
Angshu (53982) 2014-02-04 3:22
Interesting is your notes and also the ware being sold by the seller. The picture is even more interesting coming from a country less represented in TE. The facade of the church is simple & beautiful
jmdias (50359) 2014-02-16 14:21
GPC.
