Playing at the Square
Crossing a square at the center of Asuncion I saw a group of men playing damas (checkers)
They were bus drivers resting between trips, since the square is the point of departure or retur
This man so concentrated in the game has, hanging from his neck, a bag, where he store money, coins and tickets
What most caught my attention for being original, were bottle caps used as tokens
Image cropped because there were lots of people watching, who for sure, would not like being phhotographied or so I believe

It's a nice and colourful photo with a local flavour and human touch. Just the kind of picture I like. I wouldn't crop a photo just because people might dislike being in it, as long as they allowed me to take it. I would only crop if they disturbed the composition, which they may have done here. Now it has become a very "clean" and well focused photo.

Hola querida Maria,
I feel that the scene with the driver hanging on for a few more moments just to finish the game is familiar. The role of the viewer standing over a board to inspect curiously some other people's game is familiar too:) Your tight framing gives emphasis on the driver/player's posture and anxious concentration. An intimate daily life moment showing an adult playing with a childlike passion (shared with the curious viewer:). Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Hello dear Maria,
I've always liked slice of daily life photos, and this checkers game played with bottle caps is original and very interesting. I see that the photograph dates back 3 1/2 years when you were visiting Paraguay. I wish you in advance a Happy Holiday Season.

What a brilliant idea! I have only recently come across the phrase upcycling, and this has to be a perfect example. I love the idea of this, and I love the capture you have made from it too, the man reaching in to play the game adds a perfect touch to the scene.
Thanks as always
P.S. I laughed at your question about rain in Ireland :) We have been lucky this year, its been exceptionally warm and dry, so has given me a few blue skies to shoot! Thanks again.

Fantastic moment taken, as the man bent to take his move on the game.
The colorful caps are marvelous in tones over the wooden table and the surrounding.
*** About the wires you wrote about: if there are trams - there must be electric wires. Its par of life, and not bothered me at all. Also never do PS on any picture.

You know, I'm no expert here, but I don't believe that's the best wear to wear a pack!? Maybe I'm mistaken, I suppose he could fill it with snacks and use it as a human trough! Hands free! jaja
What a great shot this is, the "every day" being acted out with non-traditional items...this really looks and feels genuine. The board itself is very colorful, and I think you were wise to crop out the unnecessary people, concentrating on this individual and his actions and seemingly pensive thoughts about the next move.
Plenty of light and detail to enjoy throughout. Kudos on a delightful result...and if they run out of playing pieces...well, drink up! :)
Tener una noche agradable,
*French next time. ;)

An innovative way to recycle plastic bottle caps! Good daily life scene too with a nice downward pov and excellent sharpness and framing. I might have boosted contrast a little in the lower part of the image as the checker board looks faded from being in the sun for a long time. The blue and yellow color contrast is superb. Tfs!

Nice catch of this innovative checker board. The concentration of the player is very well captured in this compact frame.
Nice colors and excellent pov.

That's total deep concentration, priceless and most precious moment about the patient man!! thinking hard about the next move. A slice of life, very real and just love this kind of picture that you have chosen just about the perfect viewpoint and approach. Sharp in focus at the thirds as he is totally engrossed and appeared to be totally oblivious to the things going on around him. Love the comp, lighting, colours, you have just the right amount of everything in the frame! with bright blue and yellow plastic caps are very very appealing giving the extra oomph to the shot. A beautiful intimacy well captured, Congrats

While growing up in the Philippines we use to used all kinds of objects as checker or chess pieces, anything to play a game while using our imaginations. Nice capture of this man with good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.

I like a lot to play damas, but have a long time that I don't play. You bring me good memories with the photo. I like the blue and yellow caps giving life colors to the scene.
