Photographer’s Note

Looking at my old files I found many pics of and old friend of mine...the only elephant of Asuncion Zoo (female).

When I checked them I could`nt stop thinking how amazing elephants are.
I always liked them.
It has passed quite a long time since my last visit to our local zoo and I think it is time to visit her again.
She is so beautiful and cute, maybe this weekend, I hope.

Elephants are strong, intelligent and specially social animals. They take care of all the members of the group. Their thick skin to me has the texture of love.

Jardin Botanico Zoo has many species of animals. Mainly from South America. Most precious animals are the lions and the only elephant.
People usually take their children for a walk on sundays.

I truly appreciate any comment, critique, workshop that you may give me. That is precious to me, it is your time that you are giving me, and that is more valuable than gold.

I posted the original crop, the Minolta sometimes has a problem with the AF, specially when using the tele at maximum range (this case), and so the pictures seem soft, so they need sharpen or USM.

What a good idea!

Nice picture, I like the see all the lines. A pity that it's a bit too orange and that it's a bit unsharp/undetailed. But a brilliant idea!

You have cropped this well, and from this angle some soft focus at each side is to be expected.
Love her wrinkles, and the colouring, don't change a thing.

Hello my friend, I see now that we share a love! I agree with your note, oh I do! They are so amazing! And did you know, as far as I know, elephants are the only mammals with their udder between their front legs? Like humans?

Quite a nice crop, Cesar! You could add it to your onw theme.

Lovely tight crop Cesar! I recall your closeups of zoo animals, some of which I simply couldn't look at... ;-) But this is great fun and finely executed. Good work.

I've been reading your forum topic on film, which suggests you've caught the bug from Luko, Sohrab and others shooting "the old fashioned" way. It is definitely not for me, though I have great appreciation for those who play around with chemicals, scanners and all that gear. A good friend who has had many darkrooms in the past, now just shakes his head. But if the spirit moves you in that direction, I'll cheer you on your way. I'll also keep reading the thread... ;-)

Interesting crop and note. Elephants are a special animal. Too bad the picture is not sharp. Because you asked so nicely I will try a WS later on.

Now that's the way to photograph an elephant, Kike. Wonderful bold cropping of this close-up with lovely details, and I particularly like where the eye is positioned inside the frame. The hues of color to be found in this one are great. I think Efi did a nice job in the WS.

C'est un paysage que cette vue de la peau de l'éléphant. Le graphisme est très intéressant et les couleurs, quoique un peu trop forcées à mon goût, font qu'on a l'impression de survoler une autre planète.
