here is an illustration of the opposite of what we popularly know as 'bad hair day': "a day when one's hair seems unmanageable; often then developing into a day when everything seems to go wrong, and one becomes increasingly irritable" (allwords.com definition).

the model demonstrating her new hair-style is a young wild horse (in the US known as mustang) enjoying the result of her jolly roll in cotopaxi highland paramo's moss. hope you enjoy the fruits of her efforts too :)

-- free 1: a lone wild horse (not the one from today's post) strolling towards cotopaxi
-- free 2: the same character (as in 'free 1') showing off
-- you coming?: a group of horses; the subject of today's post belongs to the same group.

general information: larger and smaller herds of wild horses roam the paramo in cotopaxi national park. if feeling safe in their numbers they seem not to mind human presence, but smaller groups tend to keep their distance.

Nice picture
salut,Braca

Hi Kristaps,

very nice portrait of the beauty (even with her bad hair style). One more nice use of the tele to bring details of this wild animal. Something tells me your choice for the low saturated background fits perfectly. I like the way the main attraction pops up in the frame. Good exposure and definition, as mentioned in the beginning. The note is a pleasant reading. Great post, my friend!
Regards,
Carlos

Nice shot Kristnaps, the detail is awesome, how skiddish were these animals? This beauty is really one of the flower children isn't he/she...

Greg

I always wanted long hair as a girl but my mother kept it short ... before Mr. Splash came into my life and cut my hair she cut it and I thought it was pretty awful and these were bad nights when she cut my hair ... but I forgive her, she was a wonderful mother, full of fantasy and I still miss her Christmas stories she wrote for me but also for other children ... Mr. Splash sometimes joined (she was a nurse but worked with handicapped children and also for a daycare before I came into her life). What am I writing again but I mean it is not easy to write something serious if I read you text ... but I always think if a photo gives something back like the memories that just crossed my mind, the photo is truly good otherwise I would not stop and just continue with something else ... Barbara.

Hi, Kristaps -

Something about this picture looks off - the colors seem too bright on the horse and not quite right on the background. But I had to laugh when I saw it; you should add it to the Humor category. And it is a good shot of daily life - of a horse, that is.

Best,
Dan

Hi kristaps nice picture I really like the colours of the horse but I think there is to much unsharp parts in your pciture
So I made a workshop for you where I did something to make better.
But nice shot

the self-admiration of the horsie in this photo reminds me of a song by Annie Lenox:
What's cute about little cutie?
It's her beauty, not brains...
Old father time will never harm you
if your charm still remains...
:)
fantastic level of details here, every hair is well-defined, as it should be, considering the time it must've taken to get it in such a good shape. as to the colours - if I remember correctly, the horses did stand out against the fairly pale bacground, so I don't mind the saturation here.

hugs,
the curious cat

Hi Kristaps,
Wonderful portrait of this beautiful bronco. Love horses and I'm suprised that being in the wild he would let you get so close.
Nice colors and very good details. Like your note.
well done
take care, joRge

Hi Kristaps.
You and Kristine owe this horse a hefty model's fee or at least a good bag of oats for all ot the great shots this animal has given you! I really like your closely cropped composition and the compressed (telephoto) perspective that you chose for this portrait. The sharpness is superb and I love your title! This horse is a real character!

Hi kristaps,
It does look like she's wearing flowers in her hair and she's well-pleased with the results; and here when she was showing off, I thought she was a he!! Nope, that's not what you said!!

Anyway after reading the critiques and WS, I like the softly focused BG and I think it needs to be there to give the animal a sense of place. Otherwise it's just a nice horsie opicture and probably doesn't belong on TE.

Hi Kristaps,
This image as well as being humorous is a testimony of the wild nature of this beautiful beast who is not pampered and brushed. Wonderful colors details and sharpness to this beautiful forever wild horse.

Very nice details on this horse, Kristaps. The dead colours on the background are blowing up the horse's image.

Bonjour Kristaps,
une bien belle photo où la couleur vive du cheval tranche avec cette végértation plus terne. La DOF a permis de donner un peu de relief au niveau du cheval.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hi Kristaps,
A sweet one! I like her rusty red colouring really contrasting with the surroundings, Nicely captured with good clear focus on the horse.

Hola Kristaps,
Bella toma de este potro envuelto en flores después de retozar por el campo. Un estupenda composición con buenos detalles y contrastes.
Cordialmente
Charo

Dear Kristaps,
I just love them horses and am happy to see (reading one of your answers) that they are not hunted in this place. Horrible thought.
She is a cutie, I do find the result makes her look like bride with flowers in her hair!:-). I like the focus on the horse only, the soft colors and the more saturated ones of the animal. Lovely work, a tender eye you have...

Have a nice week. And thanks so much for putting me in your favorites, makes me happy:-)))
Kind regards
Michèle

Hi Kristaps,

Nice moment Kristaps, the horse surprised in his roling looking straight at you as if you were disturbing it in his intimate enjoyment.

Hola Kristaps, es una hermosa imagen del potro tras revolcarse en la pradera, buen contraste, buen color, buena definición, quizás un encuadre horizontal.....?

Felicidades amigo y hasta luego.
