in the background - the great cotopaxi volcanoe, about 70-something kilometers south of quito. this volcanoe is the second highest summit in the country, reaching a height of 5,897 meters and dominating the landscape of many central (sierra) ecuadorian towns.

the photo was taken from the nearby highland plain (about 3,800 meters) in the typical weather conditions of ecuadorian highland december: fast moving and changing cloud cover, a rather difficult photographic light to say the least.

the motorcycle just happened to be there at the time. as it turned out later, it belonged to a local kichwa tribe's herdsman tending their cows in the park (more about 'dem cows later).

hope you like the sight.

cheers,
k.

Extremely professional.

There is hardly ANY photograph in your gallery that is left not completely finished and meticolously presented.

No complains on my side - that's for sure...
Every pixel seems to be beautifully balanced and it knows its place in the crowd.

Solid...very solid, Kristaps.

BW for 2008, pal.

Hello Kristaps,

This picture look great with or without the motorbike. The bike is perfectly in focus here and create an interesting focal point on the foreground. If you remove the bike you show us a very dramatic view of this giant volcano. The clouds above create a threatening view and the fact we can't even see the summit provide us with an idea of the height. Good colours and sharpness. Thanks for sharing.

Roberto

Ah, there you are!
For a moment I thought I was looking at Tin Cup Pass on the Colorado Rockies, at just about the same elevation...
This is an excellent shot, with great light management. Never an easy task under this type of weather circumstances, to put it mildly.
I like that motorbike upfront, it enhances the depth of field, on top of providing a good sense of scale in the picture. Good, very good!
You guys have fun, I'll talk to you both later.
Ciao,
Fulvio.

Hi Kristaps,

what most attract me in this image is the luminosity. The motorcycle pops up in the frame. That cloudy sky on the back works really fine too. I like this scene. Very suggestive for a ride. Well done!
Regards,
Carlos

Hello Kristaps
It a nice partial view of that volcano you present here. Great informations in your note. The clouds hide the top of the volcano and show us how high it is. It would be a good advertisement for that Suzuki TS 185. Well done!
Best regards
Denis!

Hi Kristaps,
Your three photos of Ecuador are all about the people; I love it!! You have changed my image of the people, especially with the shiny new motorbike. You present a successful people that are hugely enjoying this success. As George says, there's nothing but the exceptional in your gallery.
Wishing the two of you health,m love & joy in the coming year,
Pat

excellent example to prove the point that an interesting foreground object brings the photo from "good" up to "great". this would be quite a dramatic scene even without the motorcycle, the dangerous-looking clouds and snow-capped volcano peeking through is far from being and every-day sight. but the bike and the way it's positioned adds that special extra element, I like a lot how the bike is slightly turned precisely towards the mountain. smart point of view and very good light management, my compliments.
best,
K.

HI Kristaps,
This is a rather unusual sight to me, i've been twice in south america and I don't remember having seen anybody riding motorbikes, it gives a good foreground to the hidden volcano, actually it could well be a picture for an advertisement of this brand, I see you got a top actual camera, congratulations !
Have a nice week end JY

Hello Kristaps,
It was very observant and astute of you to included the trail bike (motocycle) with the landscape. The swirlling motion of the clouds around the peak is marvelous and I am always impressed with the sharpness of your photos. I rarely read other TE member's critiques until I put my in 2 cents worth first. I agree with the first critic that this is very professional looking photography! Well done!
