Photographer’s Note
Not exactly difficult to spot as you can imagine, but they are very hard to creep up on!
These bright crustaceans were named 'Sally Lightfoot Crabs' by English sailors when they were first encountered due to the fact that they are very fast and very agile - they can actually jump from rock to rock!
When they are first born they are almost black and much more difficult to spot amongst the rocks but as they grow older so the black brightens to the vivid scarlet and yellow colours of an adult.
A fully-grown adult is generally between 15 and 20cm in size.
They are often seen in the vicinity of Marine Iguanas and Galapagos Sealions, crawling all over each other for valuable waterside rock space.

Rich

Olá Richard, you have a fascinating gallery and I felt in love by several photos in there - most of all, I envy your round the world trip and all the countries that you visited (hope to see many of your 10,000 photos...and your partner ;-) in the future. Galapagos is in my agenda for several years now, but unfortunately I didn't managed to make it come true, yet.
What made me stop on this one, was the great choice for the title - I had a big laugh with my wife :)))
The photo is really good and very beautiful. Perfect sharp, great contrast of that attractive red with the background and funny expression, if we can call that an expression ;-)
Best regards,
Ricardo
