The Chimborazo is an inactive volcan and with 6310 meter the highest mountain in Ecuador. It's possible to go until 5000 m without any equipment. There exist a mountain shelter and you can enjoy the beautiful landscape and get away from it all.

Gorgeous photograph. I couldn't even tell that there was the volcano in the background from the thumbnail. I like the variety of colours in this photo, the green, the greys and the blue.

a nice capture. i like the composition with the volcano and the "get away from it all" hut. nice colors too.

on a different note, we are thinking of going to ecuador for a two week trip around christmas time this year. any tips as far as destinations are concerned?

Hi Mario,
Great shot from a gorgeous country. This happens to be my favorite mountain in all of South America. I've seen many in Ecuador and also in Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia and Chile but the Chimbo will always be my # 1. I had the opportunity of driving from Ambato to Guaranda and was fortunate enough to see it on a bright sunny day with very few clouds.
