just a simple daily life capture from the andean slopes of quilotoa loop. the herdsman you see in the picture is the same jefe zauro you might have seen previously. chronologically, this shot was actually made before the up-close portrait. hope you like this pasture scene and the herd of jefe.

--
background: quilotoa loop is a small, about 200 kilometer long highland country road that loops around valleys near quilotoa volcanoe (the westernmost volcanoe in the andes). the road visits numerous indigenous villages and towns, but the main tourist attraction is the quilotoa lagoon (as shown by avene): a water filled volcanic crater.

the loop road is about half hard cover (from panamericana near latacunga to quilotoa), half dirt: the hard cover part was obviously built to facilitate tourist flow to the lagoon. nonetheless, at least for me, the most fun part was the other "less touristy" side, offering encounters like the one in washington alexander and nancy pic or sights like the one i showed in the chugchilan patchwork post.

--
oh, all credits for the title goe to avene!... i was struggling over silly versions like "furry slope", "sea of grass", etc... she came, looked at it and boom! there you go... fluffy! by the way, she has a similar shot, with jefe amongst his stock. not sure why she has not posted that one yet ;)

Wow, Kristaps!
A great example of what one can do with minimal (natural) tools. Maximum use of the available environment, perfect framing (read : positioning of herd & herdsman along the diagonal), wonderful silvery light. And... I love upwards shooting, it makes one wonder what's beyond and behind.
Good job, buddy!
Have a great day, see ya later.
Cheers,

Fulvio.

Hi Kristaps,
Without the man....nice, but with the man..EXCELLENT..!!!
Balance, some colour (his poncho) and the very strong diagonal line in the composition. How a simple shot can bring such an impact...very good work we see here.
Regards, Henk

Olá Kristaps,

this may be a simple life moment for the guy at the right, and even for the animals but it's not a "simple daily life capture", not at all. I really like what good photographers can do with simple scenes like that. The softness of the colors like a canvas painting, the effect on the foreground plants and the dynamic diagonal. Everything makes me think it's a great shot. Well done!
Regards,
Carlos

Hi, Kristaps -

I find this a bit too evenly balanced; maybe you could have cropped out the trailing animal without losing the story in the scene. Otherwise it's a nice daily life shot and gives a real sense of life in the Andes. There is far more vegetation here than I remember.

Best,
Dan

Hi Kristaps,
This landscape has such a strange mix of colours and the man stands out well from it in his striped poncho and so do some of his animals, nice diagonal line of the slope and well composed to include all these elements.
Regards
Wanda

I assume "fluffy" refers to the wind-blown grass that looks as soft as a cotton? :) there's something surreal in this photo (in a good sense), probably the low point of view and how the wind blown grass looks like waves in the lake, so the llamas and the man seem to be walking of water :) I like a lot the soft pastel colours with the accent Zauro's poncho provides. nice one :)

hugs,
K.

Hi, Kristaps. A very good composition with the herdsman who is well placed at the bottom of the diagonal line and against the sky. The llamas also form a nice line pointing to the descending diagonal. The animals and the herdsman bring contrast in the image, especially the man with is colourful poncho. That grey grass looks very special. I have never seen anything like this before.

Ho Kristaps,
How nice to see LLamas in their natural habitat, The detail of the grey green grass, the traditionally-clad minder and the strong diagonal make the composition even better. I really like your prediliction for keeping things natural.
HLJ, Pat

Man... This is a story out of this world...
How is that I want to walk those hills...
Step in the lama guano from time to time and play that bloody pan flute...!!!
It got to me since then... Since my trip to Peru...
Oh, brother...

Hi Kris,

nice daily life view, it's quite strange to see these almost white plants, original effect

hello Kristaps

The field color looks interesting with long stalks and providing a strong contrast and meaning to your title. Nice capture of the country life. Highland life is really a struggle but it is challenging.

tfs, bill

Hi Kristaps,
Another oustanding image that your created from your trek to Equador. The composition is superb as is your amazing capture of this unusual looking brush. You don't let "conventional wisdom" deter you from trying all kinds of unusual compositions and the results are marvelous. You are a compositional risk-taker and I like that. I say; "damn the critics and full speed ahead!". First-rate travel photography!

Bonjour Kristaps,
cela manque de couleurs, mais c'est normal, la scène n'en compte pas. Ce qui veut dire que tu as gardé cette scène 100% naturelle.
C'est une région du monde que j'aimerais visiter.
Regards.
Daniel.

Kristaps, what a great dreamy shot, when I opend it I was not at all sure but it almost as quickly grows on one, and the detail contained is really fine. As for an event in which we would ever participate, well it isn't, it is tight out of a book; hearding llama on hilly ground, just super my friend.

Hi Kristaps,
Simple life in those mountains is extraordinary to people living in cities. The low diagonal framing works really well.

Bonsoir,

For a moment I thought you had a photograph that had wild stuff and a portrait. But can't see the man's face, so no problem there :). This must have been a tough shot to nail for a number of reasons. You did very well showing us the nature of things. The fluffy grass in the foreground curiously grabs the attention more than the animals. Best wishes,
Hakan

Hi Kristaps,
Wonderfully unique capture of the lone herdsman and his lovely flock. Beautiful soft relaxing colors to this windy landscape with the flowing grass contrasting brilliantly with the cloudless blue sky. Excellent geographic note.
Regards, Tom

Kristap,
so it bee. Fluffy! Weird, how did she come up with that? It never would have occured me. These fluffy things reminds me a lot of the sage here in California and Orgeon and they are not fluffy at all!
Wonderful scene of the herdsman leading his lhamas up the hill.
Peter

Hello Kristaps,

Superbes, ces broussailles, avec ces animaux et cet homme que l'on aperçoit. Une belle image de paysage, toute simple.

Kristap,
This is absolutely a great shot of the very beautiful landscape as well as the daily life of Ecuador country side. I love the color of the poncho of the Chichua shepherd and composition of the image. I can almost feel the wind. Very perfectly balanced color and light. TFS.

Hello Kristaps
I have to say that the thumbnail does not do this shot any justice. A fine picture, where the title is very apt! The gentle slope, the llamas & most importantly, the herdsman...& thanks to the link to the portrait of the herdsman. Simply first rate!
Best Regards
Angshu

Ola Kristaps,
Bela foto de vida diária deste pastor de Lamas , gostei da linha de terra na diagonal , fantásticos estes montes de erva , bom contraste de cores, parabéns!!
