[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
the world is my oyster

--
another addition to my 2008 Jan 1st encounters series.
a simple street portrait: no colorful ethnographic patterns, no "exotic" faces...
just a young, confident ecuadorian on the first day of this year. different expression, different attitude than the rest of the people in this series. so, if you watch this photo, see the rest from the series too to put this man in the context.

--
the capture was made in front of the Basilica de la Virgen de Agua Santa in Banos, Ecuador on January 1st of 2008. as i mentioned in an earlier post from this series, people from all over gather at the Basilica on this day.

Very cannily framd and compsoed portrait that has a bit of style and elan. Its well managed and well balanced. I like the colours and the way you have handled the lights

Hi Kristaps,
I dont know why this one did not get the deserved attention. Probably the title has got a bit to do. As opened the shot from the thumbnail I was ashamed to feel that I once decided not to open it. (It did not look very appealing from the thumbnail). But take my words, this is an incredible shot. I just loved the confidence and self belief that oozes out of this face!!! A self reliant Ecuadorian!!!
Thanks for shaering,
Regards,
Sagarneel.

Hi Kristaps,
sunglasses, posture and expression speak volumes.
This is a real proud latino portrait. Very good!
A picture with a lot of social implications, it's just a matter of scratching past the idea of "portrait" most folks seem to have.
Every picture tells a story... Well, this one sure does.
Excellent!
Cheers,
F.

Hello Kristaps,
This is not only an excellent cultural portrait but it about sums up the bravado and confidence that young men often display. We know that there is a certain amount of insecurity that lies underneath, but his outward display of overwhelming self confidience is pretty typical for a young man. Thank God for a constant influx of young people for we get more cautious and conservative as we get older. An excellent portrait and I love your profile shot and the simple and unobtrusive background. You do great work! (I appreciate your thoughtful critiques and your advice. I will incorporate some bold lettering in some of my longer notes as you suggested).

me and this guy have at least one thing in common - we both seem to like Tommy Hilfiger :))
I don't think I can add anything to what Stan said about the combination of bravado and insecurity, that describes this photo perfectly - just look at the sunglasses! he sees everything, but nobody sees HIS eyes and what he actually thinks.
the simple background and selective focus make sure nothing distracts the attention from the main subject. cool photo :)
hugs
K.
