Grazing llamas (and one alpaca)

The Ecuadorian highlands are an ideal environment for raising llamas and alpacas, both domesticated animals. The former has more use as a pack animal and occasionally for meat, while the latter´s wool is valued for textile production.
The two can be distinguished from one another by their size (llamas tend to grow slighly larger), the texture of their wool (alpaca wool being finer), and differences in physical features such as the ears, tail, and legs. The creature on the top right is the lone alpaca in the group.
These llamas and alpacas are some of the many that have been introduced into the community of Illagua Chico as part of a project supported by several national and international organizations including the US Peace Corps, as well as the community itself. Their introduction and the constant care by those involved is both a benefit to the highland páramo ecosystem, as well as the local men and women who have learned the process of creating garments from alpaca fibers. |

Hi Adam, Good pastural scen from a country we don't see many photos from although the llamas are famous around the world. Good realistic colours. Good to see this on TE. Murray.
So cute! They look very fuzzy.
