a little samurai girl. full of fiesty spirit and attitude... :) well, i do realise she is not japanese. still, she reminded me of the samurai tradition for some reason.

the shot was made from afar with a 300 mm lense, so please don't be too hard on the foto. i know, there is still some noise and the sharpness on the girl's face is not good. nonetheless, i found her attire and attitude to be so appealing that i decided to share it here.

have a great weekend, folks! :)

the capture was made in front of the Basilica de la Virgen de Agua Santa in Banos, Ecuador on January 1st of 2008. as i mentioned in an earlier post from this series, people from all over gather at the Basilica on this day.

Hi Kristaps, how are you? Nice title!!! Such a good expression on the little girls face. I wish the mom wasn't holding her hand. I was thinking on how to crop this photo to take the mom's arm out of the frame, but it doesn't seem to be possible.
She is like posing for you!!!
Have a good weekend.

Daniel

Hi Kristaps,
a lovely little samurai girl!
Taken from afar and with a 300 mm. lens... what else could one possibly do!
IMNAAHO : sharpness and noise are not relevant in here, and they don't bother me none anyway.
The little girl's attire and attitude are obviously the keys, and ALL this shot is really about. So, as far as that goes you done just fine.
I also like a lot her mother's arm stretching in from top-right. I find that pink sleeve up in there most appealing.
Good job!
Have a great weekend, buddy.
Later,
Fulvio.

Hi Kristaps,

at least you have time for posting beauties like this one :)) Very nice portrait of the girl. Her black clothes worked fine for the shot...and the hand of her mother was a great addition. It brings some kind of protection in the context of the shot. Well done!
Regards,
Carlos

tough shot to comment, isn't it? I definitely like the girl and the moment you've caught, I like the composition with the mothers's arm visible in the frame to illustrate why the kid's so confident, I like a lot her festive clothes that fit well with the story of going to chuch, but I agree about the noise, it is a bit distracting. on the other hand, that's the only problem I see in this shot. light management is excellent - the white is white and the black is black, and the level of details and sharpness is very good too.
take care,
K.

Hi Kristaps,
What an adorable little girl! Is she cute or what? Her "Japanese Samuri" outfit is wonderful (I think that this is actually a South American cowgirl outfit). My wife would say that she breaks the "cutetometer". I love the way that she appears to be pointing at you and I like the inclusion of her mother's guiding hand. The sharpness is just fine as it is. This is a wonderful and uplifting image and a great title!

Hi Kristaps,
Excellent candid capture of this charming young lady with a very confident attitude about her expression ans she peers into your lens. Very clear colors with nice details and sharpness to this fine image.

Hi Kristaps,
What I like here is the expression on the face of the little girl. Innocent but has a charecter. The dress to looks great!!!I dont think that the technical parameters have been compromised here. It looks perfect here.

Hi Kristaps,
I love this shot!! It looks like the little girl is shooting back at you. Her holiday costume clearly places the compostion. Great light management, detaiul and color.

Krsitaps,
this is certainly a very good model with all the attributes required for an engaging portrait at National Geographic, but you know that this shot never would end up there and you know exactly why. A workshop as it was done by Daniel frees the girl from the mother's arm, but it is gimmick and we don't want to be PP experts but photography experts. I hope you understand my arguing. NIce attempt anyway.
Peter
