Photographer’s Note
Picture take from our airplane leaving Quito to go to the Galapagos Islands.
It is incredible how that landing strip is in the middle of the city, in the middle of the valley.
This picture was of course taken from a commercial airplane so the quality is not as good as I was I've liked but I think it shows an original view of Quito!

Good view, but focus is lost and probably will be better with a bit of sharpening. Maybe a bit zooming could have helped :)

I think it is a good shot especially taken from the airplane.
Like the previous intervention, I would add a bit of sharpening and adjust the levels.
As an aviation lover, I would like to add that Quito is a VERY difficult airport for airplanes to operate in. The very high altitude of the city and sometimes high temperature make it difficult for aicraft to climb fast enough not to hit the mountains!

Salut Simon,
Amicalement,
Marc

Hi Simon,
This view makes me remember my turbulent arrival in UIO in august 2005. I agree with MeAT, only very experienced pilots usually land in UIO. I've been really impressed of this airport in the middle of the city. As a private pilot (in CH) and naturally aviation freek, I remember having spent some hours on the street at the begining of the runway taking pictures of planes on final approach 35. Very impressive!
There is a project to build a new international airport en Puembo (about 35km east from downtown), to avoid this difficult approach and the risks of an accident in the middle of the city!
Best regards
Bertrand

Bonsoir Simon,

Thanks for allowing me to reminisce.

Hi Simon - given the circumstances the quality is good enough, it's interesting to see a large runway completely surrounded by urban space, I don't think zooming would have helped, as suggested above, but post processed sharpening, maybe, but only for the lower parts.
