who's afraid of the big river? well, obviously not Hernando and Giselle, brother and sister we met in the sleepy town of Misahuallí. the kids were returning from a boat ride and were hurrying home for dinner. what I liked a lot was how comfortable they were at being alone in pretty much the very middle of the jungle river, how proficient the Hernando was at handling the boat and how relaxed Giselle was in the knowledge that her brother would take care of her.

Hola Kristine, an image is worth more than thousand words!!
Fantastic image of great technical quality, light and brightness. The composition is excellent, and the faces of both brothers are unique. Surprising depth through the river and great dynamism in the photography.

Salut, Jordi

Hi Kristine!

What an compelling capture of these children. I agree that they look absolutely fearless, just calm. It's a colorful shot with wisely chosen composition. The details are great.

hey :)

beautiful capture of these two little brave-hearts. the brother seems soo... meaning business and serious, while giselle obviously is completely at ease with the situation. and WE know how easily these boats can roll over :)

nicely balanced composition in my opinion

Hi Kristine

One of my favorite scenes - river and boat.

2 years ago, I send a photo of children jumping into the fast-flowing river for swim, and my french-language professor friend's question was about safety of the children without safety guards (those found at swim pools) or safety jackets.

In many parts of developing countries, this is a very common sight at rivers. Daily life depends on the boat. Children learn how to live with such transport tool, instinctively or otherwise.

Your capture has a good sense of power to live and a good Note. I like the saturated warm colors and composition in this pov.

Well done. TFS

Cheers, bill

Hi Kristine,
I really like this melancholic, peaceful view of everyday's life in a place light-years away from the world we are used to live in.
These poor kids sure don't get a new Nokia cell phone on their 9th birthday, but they are strong in their own way and manage to grow up where nowadays city kids wouldn't stand a chance in hell without getting ill within 5 minutes, or worst.
A fine picture with subtle social implications.
Good job!
Have a great evening, I'll see you soon.
Ciao,
Fulvio.

Very nice and interesting capture Kristine, I like the close composition with the vertical and diagonal lines. Well done.

Hi Kristine,
Lovely picture and excellent note. Somtimes it makes you wonder what type of life is better for kids… growing up in a big city with the luxuries of TV and cellular phones or in the country enjoying life with nature?
Your picture has beautiful colors , good composition and nice atmosphere.
Take care

Hello Kristine,
This is another great travel shot to add to your Ecuadorean travelogue. Your composition is perfect! Uptight Americans would be appalled at these unattended kids in the open water, but they are weaned on the water just like kids even younger than this learn to ride a horse on a ranch, or learn to ski while they are still barely able to walk. This little guy is probably already an ace at traversing the river in this boat. Excellent and very interesting photograph!

Hi Kristine,
Kristaps told me this one was coming!! They really are very young to be out paddling around in that big river, I can see why you were impressed. I do like the way you framed the whole boat; it is amazing that you were able to capture such good facial detail - and that is what really makes the photo.

Hi Kristine,
I really love this one with the charming children blending so naturally with their environment. The rippling river water has a lovely blue sheen to it and the children make a dreamy reflection in it. Wonderful human touch to this beautiful scene.

Kristine, your gallery mey be more varied than any other I visit, you seem to do more types of photos well. I have a terrible time with people, you make it look easy, I am jealous. Great capture.

Kristine,
Very beautiful image of the Ecaudor Amazon Jungle with local children doing their everyday things. Children in place like this grow up much faster. This bring back many font memories for me of 7-8 years ago when I was in the Haorany jungle near Coca. Beautiful evening color with nice rich tone. Lovely image. Thanks for that and your nice comments.
