beauty of simplicity

--

misahuallí port, a place at the edge of the civilization, miles (many) away from daycare centers, family councellors and social safety networks. a place where roads end, rivers meet and time stops.

big brother hernando took giselle out for a long boat ride in the great river.

the day was hot.

giselle must hurry now. her mother and dinner are waiting.

Hi, Kristaps. A good B&W picture to show this little girl having a wash in the river. There are two good diagonal lines that frame the main subject well.

Hi Kristaps,
B&W photography is like brain surgery to me : I know nothing about it! But I like what I see... not a very profound critique, nevertheless an honest one.
You guys have a great sunday.
Cheers,
Fulvio.

Hello Kristaps
great moment
i like colour tones and action of the water
thanks for sharing
regards
ozhan

i wish with your new camera you take a lot of beautiful shots like previous shots

Interesting b&w Kristaps, not bad at all. Deep black with bright white parts work very well together in combination with all those grey tones. The moment was just right when the girl was washing her self, i like the flow of water over her hands.
Maybe a tighter crop would also work to put even more accent on the girl, but have to admit that i like also this one a lot.
Good b&w treatment...really good.
Regards, Henk

Hi Kristaps,
You are clearly quick with your camera to capture this moment; it's interesting to me how much the girl's posture and the flowing water conveys the moment without further comment. The boat is also of PP quality; I would have played if safe and chosen that one for the PP - but I would have been wrong.

Bonjour Kristaps,
photo 100% TE, regard sur la vie moins confortable dnas certaines parites du monde où toutefois le bonheur n'est pas toujours moindre qu'ici dans nos pays civilisés.
Excellente idée que de passer cette photo en BW.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hi Kristaps,

you are right! The simplicity is what pleases me most in this scene. Lovable moment with the child washing her face. Great photography sense. The choice for the b&w was more than proper. Well done!

Carlos

Hi Kristaps,
well done! I like this very very much. A moment in the life of this little girls well seen and captured, with great choice of b/w. I like the light, the fg and bg a bit out of focus so that we can concentrate on Giselle in the water. Lovely composition and wonderful mood.
I think your WS is worth a posting too...

Best regards
Michèle

I think you can safely add "decisive moment" as a category, you've captured just the right second when the girl has burried her face in her hands, but the water she had brought to her face still moves - I don't think it can get any better than this. I like how you've used the boat in the background to create a natural frame, and I also think the B&W works well here to focus attention on patterns and textures. but what I like most and kinda sweet is how easily the kid could hide among those white stones - she's so small you can hardly notice her! for me it tells the story of both the small kid in the big world (and that, in turn, goes well with your note about the boat ride in the great river) and how comfortable she feels being alone there. beautiful shot, I like it a lot.
best,
K.

Well captured and framed, Kristaps, light is good and the main post in combination with the WS version works particularly well, telling a story...

Cheers
Alexander

Hi Kristaps,
I am listening to a CD of Andean music that my mother brought back for me when she was in Peru about eight years ago ("El Condor Pasa", as a matter of fact..so I am in "South American" mode right now). She loved Peru! It is always interesting for me to compare these tough little kids to the pampered and overprotected kids our part of the world. I remember commenting on your boat ride post and I said the same thing. These kids will probably be just fine. Very good shot and one that I find fascinating due to the cultural differences between this remote part of Ecuador and our culture.

Hi Kristaps,
What a wonderful timeless capture of this lovely child washing for dinner after an exciting day with her big brother on their river trip. Excellent clearity and details to this shot where time stands still.
Regards, Tom

felicitaciones.
Diego
