At the end of our trip through Ecuador we've spent two nights in Runa Tupari. This is a project that supports the indian people living there in the surroundings of Otavalo. In two little communities families have build special cabins for tourists who like to see the more or less daily life. At night you can eat with them. In fact I did feel a bit embarrassed because our cabin was much bigger then their whole house... You can have a look at the weaving and making poncho's etc. Our hostess was grandma Maria, a nice friendly woman. She is wearing the usual clothing: white shirt, with a blue cloak - she can folds it on several ways so it didn't bother her - a lot of golden (I don't know if it was real gold) necklaces and the hat is also made from a big cloth which she folded around. This is special for the Otavalo indians.
I've made this picture while she was cooking. Just framed it. |
