Cinder Cones in Bartolome island
These are normally found further inland than tuff cones, and on the flanks of the main volcano. They are often termed ‘parasitic cones’ , and are frequently nearly perfect cone shapes. Cinder cones are the result of very explosive eruptions, where there is a lot of gas in the magma, which expands rapidly as the magma comes to the surface. The cinder or scoria is used on the inhabited islands to make roads, which are very dusty when dry.

Fabulous POV Selene - you really get a sense of height with the steps leading down and away. Lovely splash of colour from the sea. Nice sharp detail. Best regards, Roberto

Hello Selen

Now this is what I call a great perspective!
The composition is just perfect and the overall finished result works great with the title.
Condition look like they have been optimal, a soft light that brings out details and a clear sky that really gives the true impression of distances. The DOV is excellent.
Great one.

Hi Selen,

What a striking image .. the inclusion of this almost classic photographic element of this endless winding stair in this strange alien landscape of barren red with the distant blue sea is out of some discordant dream. Wondrous image.

take care,

John

So you were visiting Ecuador just a few days before me, Selen... but my Galapagos boat didn't go to Bartolome, according to this shot I missed something very nice... I like the colors, including the brown tones and the blue of the sea, and a great catch of the steps, esp. that glorious curve... thanks for sharing! Daniel

This is maaaad :) Amazing place, hard to believe it's on Earth.
TFS Selen!

Hello Selen,
Crazy wideangle view that gives me vertigo. Love the way the stairs make a curve. Color, sharpness look great. Hosçakal,

Hello Selen,
This landscape is fascinating. Nevertheless, I would be more pleased if there were no stairways on the slopes of the volcano. I suppose this is because of the large number of tourists. So the place is not that deserted, unfortunately. But you managed to include it in your picture in a very interesting way.
Regards,
etlerl

Makes me dizzy just to look at the stairs.... really feel like I am there.... Strange place for sure!

hello,
very good colours, light and fantastic POV!!!!
Well done!
regards
Igor

Very striking image. Might have been better still if you'd shifted your viewpoint left a bit, to get the steps further into the right hand corner. Still, a wonderful shot, well done.

Very interesting image, almost demands that it be looked at and into.

One critique suggested an altered POV, to move the stair to the right. I disagree with that suggestion, but I could imagine lowering the camera position, and aiming higher to put a little more headroom, a little more sky above the prominent cone and lowering the horizon at the same time. This would also move the right rail of the stairs out of the exact bottom corner of the image and into the 1/3 position; the lower end of the stairs would then exit the frame at the 1/3 position, rather than at dead center. I posted a WS to examine what if...not meant as criticism.

Regards

Chris

Very good perspective that drives your eyes along the whole scene. I also like the colors. And the place where you took the picture, of course.
