Photographer’s Note
i know, i know well that Peter (pboehringer) will give me extremely hard time for being too lazy and not getting my circular(!!) polarizing filter ouf of the bag... so... guess what, Peter, i dedicate this photo to you. what now!? ;)
not much in the picture (sorry, Peter): just an everyday (year-around) pastoral scene from Quilotoa loop - a 200 kilometer long road [about half of it is dirt] that circles through a number of highland villages near Cotopaxi. this shot was made close to the village of Chugchilan where the radiant greens made me stop my car in a very precarious place (the road was not wider than the car and it seemed, soon would be much narrower due to mudslides...), and it took some waiting to get the sun shine through the clouds onto the slope... :) hope you enjoy the festival of highland life as well.

ps: here is another picture from chugchilan: two kids, with peculiarly american names. i met them not far from the place we see in today's post.

Another beautiful Andean landscape, with great naturalness and diversity of greens, combines the magic of the landscape, with the absorbent environment.
The depth of field is exceptional, giving us to know that in the midst of outlining a wide gulf, perhaps.

Hi Kristaps
Well its still a great picture even without the polarizing. I like the POV and the way the color changes with the distance.

Hi Kristaps,
this is such a beautiful view! The two layers work pretty fine as much as the diagonal line. There is an atractive texture and light on the green land and the trees add a lot to the compo. My opinion? The polarizer in your bag thanks you for not to be used at this time :) I like the blue color as it is. Well done!

Carlos

Hi Kristaps, great photo. Very intense green. I think you could use a little bit of photoshop to get a little more contrast on the background.
La composicion es muy buena y las diagonales de las montañas dan un efecto 3d en la foto.
Muy buen trabajo!!!

Hi Kristaps,
I am delighted to see another photo from your Ecuadorean trip! The rugged scenery and the swirling clouds and intermittent rain mixed with warm sunshine never ceases to amaze me! You and Kristine must have taken your raingear on and off about twenty times a day. I agree with Peter that the circular poloarizer make a difference with this harsh equatorial lighting, but then again he was not hanging on for dear life as the tour jeep went flying around the curves on these narrow roads. I love your travelogue and keep the photos coming!

seems that the polarizing filter is getting really cozy in your bag :P
but I do like what I see here - the layered strong triangles of the mountains create a great sense of depth, that's exactly what you'd want in a photo like this. I don't mind the lack of contrasts in the background, for me it actually emphasises the feeling of distance when all the details have faded. but what I like best is the foreground with all those captivating patterns and textures, the tiny houses make it look like a toy. very nice work :)
hugs,
K.
p.s. are we still planning that 200km WALKING trip? :)

Hi Kristaps,
Interesting mountains' shapes well captured with vivid colors and contrasts. This great diagonal with the intensive green give an special contrast the mountain in background partially covered by this haze. Well done, regards, Consuelo

hello Kistraps
From the saturation of color and green, no CPL works fine here. Good pov to show the slop of the green hill, more of a separation from the distant shady mountain.
Good shot.

Hi Kristaps,
Wounderful capture to this beautifully textured lush green hillside. Excellent depth created by the deep narrow valley as it is seen moving towards this misty sky and high peaks. The distant hillside is seen in lovely muted details.

Yeah, what about a little polarizer, uh? LOL!!!
Polarizer or not : the view is magnificent, with that ascending diagonal roadline from left to right to spice it up to the max. Huge depth of field, great POV, brilliant greens and, what else... yeah, where is your polarizer?
Damn good shot, buddy!

Hi Kristaps,
This is maybe the fifth time i am opening this picture. Although the view is absolute great and those greens make me jealous, it's the overal composition what worries me a bit. I ask to much, i know, but what about more to the right and give a real opening between those two mountains?
Despite the pola the sky is still a bit soft and that suits the picture well, a hard deep blue sky would not work here in contrasting of those dark greens, the image would be to dark, but this works very nice.

Hello Kristaps,
This I believe is the most beautiful of the shots from Ecuador. The colors are brilliant, the definition razor sharp. With or without a polarizing filter, this cannot be improved. The composition, the diagonal structure provided by the slopes, all just fabulous.
Warm regards,
Bulent

HJello Kristaps. You have crossed the two slopes excellently in contrasting color and lightness. The diagonal light brings out excellent contrast to the composition with tiers of the two hills well drawn. Well done and have a wonderful weekend. Best regards. Jusni

Hello Kristaps,
nice this panoramic view over the Mts,with the clouds to cover a part of it.The greenery foreground with the light to fall on, make the capture very attractive.Under these vivid lighting conditions, the polarize filter is very useful.Well done.
Have a nice week,Danos

You know Kristaps, this is not the kind of photo I would look at and think, "He needs a polarizer." I think it is because there is such intense color and contrast in the FG hillside that a polarizer would have made the FG too dark. Then as several have commented, the misty BG gives a needed DOF that lets us recognize the immensity of the landscape. The softer colors of the sky & clouds are also much more true than the polarized version, I think as I look at a similar sky out the window.
