Photographer’s Note

i was planning to take a break from posting until the next week, but then i noticed this fresh and cheerful spring greeting from our dear george (polonaise) here... my heart jumped in protest... that cannot be left without answer. so... to counter, i offer you some late evening christmas colors from quilotoa. as you may have noticed from my previous posts, christmas time light is tricky in ecuador. weather is rapidly changing all through the day but the sky is mostly covered with clouds (you can still see them threatening me with dark shadows on the slopes and foreground). so, what you see here is an exceptional moment for that time of the year. unfortunately, i sensed it would pass all too quickly so i did not have time to find a decent foreground object. the green field on the right will have to do. the shot was made very close to quilotoa village (the bright spots you see on the left side in the far background are village outskirt houses). what you see as a tectonic break in the middle of the frame is the canyon of river zimbagua (if any locals see this pic, please correct me if i am wrong) that traverses the valley on southern slopes of quilotoa volcanoe.

may your weekend be sunny (or rainy if that's what you need for your fields) and full of spring-like joy!

background: quilotoa loop is a small, about 200 kilometer long highland country road that cicles around valleys near quilotoa volcanoe (the westernmost volcanoe in the andes). the road visits numerous indigenous villages and towns, but the main tourist attraction is the quilotoa lagoon (as shown by avene): a water filled volcanic crater.
