another view on lagoon limpiopungo in cotopaxi national park: this time across the whole lagoon rather than one corner of it as i showed in the shot with the reddish water-grass. in the far background - the stratovolcanoe cotopaxi himself. a bit camera shy, wrapping himself in clouds as usual in december in these highlands (the lagoon is about 3000 meters above the sea level). for scale: the little dots on the right are cars approaching the lagoon, which happens to be the first attraction as people enter the park through the main entrance. by the way, it took us several hours to go around the whole lagoon.

happy weekend to everyone! :)

ps. i know, some might say, a circular polarizer would have helped me here to tame the reflections off the water. in this case, i actually like the silvery field of dribbly reflections countering the white-grayish clouds in the sky.

Hi Kristaps

You used a low level for this shot of landscape, which is very appropriate to highlight the cloud that rests on the lake. Great frame, pleasant atmosphere, good definition in the contrast and sharpness.

John

Hola my friend,

it's indeed a marvelous view. The emptiness of the lagoon on the foreground pleases my eyes and makes a good invitation for the mountains on the horizon. Once more, nothing would be better than the cloudy sky to fill the upper part. Well composed! Thank you for taking a bit of Cotopaxi to us by those nice images...
Regards,
Carlos

so calm, so serene, so beautiful... love this view, there's something very Zen in the slowly mooving clouds and smooth shapes of the mountains and grass, everything seems to be shifting and swirling and melting together. and I like a lot how the cool tones dominate the photo, they make the yellow and bright green stand out much more prominently. very, very nice, my compliments.
hugs,
K.

Hi Kristaps, nice photo for a friday, I said that because I'd love to be there instead of my desk!!!! :)
I agree with you about the polarizer, I do like the reflection on the water. Great colors over the grass with that red tone.
I think there is a little too much sky, but I like som of the clouds convering the peak of the mountain.
Great job!!
Have a good weekend.

Daniel

Hi, Kristaps.
never mind the polarizer, I wouldn't have used in this shot. Those silvery reflections nicely counteract the white-greyish skies, as you also pointed out in your note,
The latter are impressive.
Great landscape shot, with lovely patches of red, yellow and green to provide a very subtle yet colorful touch.
Excellent, IMNAAHO.
The Don wants you to know he likes it a lot. LOL!!!
Have a great weekend, I'll catch up with you later.
Ciao,
Fulvio.

Dramatic cloud cover bathing this landscape, Kristaps. Wonderful color, lighting, and point of view. I like the way these flecks of azure sky interrupt the clouds. Nicely done!

Bonjour Kristaps,

Have a great week-end.
Daniel.

Hello Kristaps,

I would this use for a nice water painting.
The cloud above the top of the mountain care for a wonderful atmosphere.
Also the reflections in the small wrinkles on the water give a nice composition.
Vetry well done, thanks for sharing.

Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hello Kristaps! I can see the cars very very tiny and they seem like nothing, the landscape takes them in, eats them up. I don't mind not seeing much of the volcano. The clouds are drama enough for me, what a spectacle. I like that you used a little bit of land in your foreground, just this stripe of marshland, and I guess this makes this picture very special ... I mean the landscape is amazing but these little things that are very often overseen, make a photo different from others. Very well seen ... we learn we learn ... Have a wonderful Sunday! Barbara.

Hi Kristaps,
The clouds are gorgeous! Amazing scenery, although to me it seems like if you had the cropped the sky a bit it would have been even better.
TFS.

Hi Kristaps,
Wonderful high altitude capture of this high valley that sees its weather in a continous flux due to its closeness to the sky. Very dramatic clouds seen circuling the great peaks. The silver blue color to the lagoon give this image a lonely but peaceful look.

Hi Kristaps,
I really like the open sky here. The lake looks so peaceful. This is just a piece of a picture postcard.
Wonderful shot!!

Hi,
it's a very excellent work, I like the brightness, of your picture. The cololurs are very clear and nice.
The staidness of the water, and the choppy clouds are creating a very interesting and dinamic composition.

Hi Kristaps,
That stunning sky is perfectly framed by curves of the hillside. I don't thning I've ever seen such cloud detail go right down to the landline. Perhaps it is the altitude. Your comments about the cars helps us recognize the immensity of the view. That bit of red sand shoreline makes a nice contrast. I agree with Avene's comment that it is very Zen.

Really now, I can't help wonder if film, e.g. Provia, would not handle this scene better. It's mostly clouds, so dynamic range and contrast control is an issue. Agree with you on the non-use of polarizer here. Regards,
Hakan

Ola Kristaps,

Hello Kristaps,
This is a fine and beautiful piece of landscape photo well captured!
Good pov with great depth with a awesome clouds formation!
perfect sharpness, good colour and details
well done
greeting

Hi Kristaps,
I remember commenting the other two post of yours of this area. I like them all, and I especially like this broader version. Those Equadorian clouds just blow my mind! I have never seen anything quite like them. This photograph would look oustanding enlarged as a print. Another idea I had was to crop part of the sky out and to make a panoramic version of this superb photograph os yours. I made a WS photo for you just for fun. Let me know what you think.
Stan
