Efraín And María

This monument elaborated totally in marble of Carrara, raises the immortality of one of read romantic literary works more in Hispano-America, the Maria, of the writer of Cali Jorge Isaacs (1,837 - 1,895).

This story written in 1.867, mixes in perfect conjunction traditional and idyllic notes and deals with with the great sensitivity the problems about the love and the death.

Constructed by the catalan sculptur man Carlos A. Perea, that recreated magnifies literary work of the writer in a set of sculptures, where they appear the protagonists, Efrain and Maria, reading the poetry book of Atala, also they are possible to be appreciated the dog Mayo and the tragic black Bird.

This monument in honor of the writer was obtained thanks to a group of ladies of Cali and Buga, that, in 1920, in gratefulness to work "MARIA", with the support of poets like: Ricardo Nieto, Carlos Villafañe, Blas Scarpetta, Alberto and Maria Carvajal, obtained the elaboration of this recognition.

Although the monument is preserved considerably in downtown, to a flank of the Paseo Bolivar, is possible to mention that the damage caused by the inclemency of the time (to the sun and the water), has made an impression on their tonality.

Hola John.

Josep.
