Cleaning Up The God House
Saint Anthony Chapel

In the middle of century XVIII, the city of Santiago of Cali, had 5,000 inhabitants less than, extending until the Saint Anthony hill.

In the first church of Saint Peter, a chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua existed, which was frequented by the faithfuls in the misa Sundays and holidays.

In 1742, before the difficulties that faced the faithfuls to attend the misa in the first church, the parish priest Jose de Alegría saw the necessity to create a viceparish in the Hill of Saint Anthony.

With the 1000 donation patacones of the spanish Juan of Orejuela after its death, began the project of construction of the church in the hill, this was possible thanks to lands donated by Juan Francisco Garces Aviar in 1746.

The church began to construct and was erected in 1747.

In 1786, one knows by historical references, that the chapel counted on a efigie of Saint Anthony in the central niche, to the right an image of Our Mrs. of Bethlehem and to the left an image of Saint Joaquin and Saint Anna.

In this year the chapel was rebuilt for the first time and later in 1803.

In 1944 to celebrate its 200 years, a restoration was realised.

The launching slips of the presbítero and the balustrade are curved to the baroque style. In the brick cover the entrance arc is of means point and flanked by pilasters.

The structure of three bodies this built completely in brick; in the second body the bells are in two means bays point of traditional style almohade.

The closing is a relatively acute triangular frontispiece with two odoriferous clays, originally crowned by a ceramic addition (which is absent in our days).

Accidental and peculiarly, while it looked for an ideal angle to catch this old chapel, it transferred the door this religious sister, to fulfill its workings daily.

I considered that it could be a good support for the composition, observing impeccable of its habit and game that did with the rest of the structure.
